billvon 3,120 #1 Posted June 13, 2020 So the GOP has made the brave decision to - oppose same sex marriage. From Politico: "The decision by the party’s executive panel Wednesday means the GOP will maintain positions in the 4-year-old policy blueprint — including opposition to same-sex marriage and a nod to gay conversion therapy." And thus give the finger to 11 million Americans.

Not a lot of gay support there.

Jerry Baumchen Like the memories of old white men who dream of jobs long gone. "The base is shrinking because there are fewer Republicans. So the base is more solid than it was, but there's fewer of them," he said. The University of Virginia Center for Politics detailed party registration last week and found that there were nearly 12 million more registered Democrats than Republicans across 31 states and the District of Columbia. " Its really the party of trump. When GOP senators are confronted with the latest trump outrageous tweet or brainstorm. They feign ignorance or major hearing disability. Although when the lobbyist comes calling with his bag of gold the senator has all the answers and is ready to oblige.

The first being;"A vote by the Republican National Committee to leave the party’s 2016 party platform unchanged ahead of the November election has infuriated grassroots activists — including moderates who wanted to streamline its message and social conservatives who sought added language on emerging hot-button topics." https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/11/republicans-rnc-decision-314172 I think the Independent Party will continue to grow. People are getting tired of the two "Have to believe in this to be part of this party" platforms. IMO It's both parties are loosing more centrists. "According to data from Ballot Access News, independents make up 29.09 percent of registered voters, while Republicans make up 28.87 percent and Democrats make up 39.66 percent. The data comes from the 31 states that require registration by party. An analysis by The Washington Post, which first reported the data, notes that there hasn't been a large drop in GOP registration since President Trump was elected, meaning he's likely not linked to the change. The growth of independents is more likely part of a broader trend since voter registration began in the 1900s. In 2004, Democrats made up 42.19 percent of the vote, Republicans made up 32.79 percent of the vote and independents made up 23.15 percent of the vote. The number of independents has been growing since, while the number of Democrats and Republicans has slowly declined." https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/485255-there-are-fewer-registered-republicans-than-independents-for-the-first-time

People are getting tired of the two "Have to believe in this to be part of this party" platforms. IMO It's both parties are loosing more centrists. ... A third party vote in the face of two dominate parties is a very difficult proposition. Usually it ends up splitting the vote of the most centrist party allowing the more radical traditional party to achieve power. Furthermore in the US with three centers of power, the presidency, the house and the senate. Creates three walls to climb. Once a wall or two has been climbed there are splits in when the vote allows changes in power in each of those institutions. Its not like a single election can sweep all three. So a independent party would have to show results over a two year period to sustain its appeal. Which would have to occur in the face of obstruction of the dominant traditional two parties.
