Yep...that will solve everything.

No it won’t solve everything, but building empathy and connection goes a long way towards healing and diffusing a situation.

Us versus them is such a universal problem. Witness the free flyer verse bellyflier divides that occur on many drop zones.

That's why Hybrids were conceived, no?;)

I think you need to take a drive into the inner city on a summer Saturday evening and discover the problems cops face doing their job.

So the solution to having a hard job is systemic racism, brutality and inequality? Or do you not believe that’s actually a thing?

Didn’t some of your police do exactly what is being suggested? Put down the riot shield and join in? Certainly that story was reported here in Australia

Well, you now - crime happens.  Why stop it anyway?  Just give up, and let the people police themselves, right?  That's what big government does, right?

Should they put theirs things down and join the riots too?

BTW - I didn't read that he wasn't talking about on a protest event.  It was an average day he spoke of.

I suggest doing a ride along in urban Houston, Miami, Dallas, or the like.

Why does it have to be either/or?  You painting the police with that broad brush is as bad as racism.  I'm saying your kumbayah approach is childlike and foolish.

This is an example of the ongoing and systemic racism that most people don't even recognize:

It will solve a lot.  When you change the dialogue from "them" to "us" a lot of things become a lot clearer.

It will certainly work a hell of a lot better than vandalizing cars, calling out the military, and using unmarked mercenaries to "dominate the streets."

Or you could just keep rioting.  Your choice.

Your fear is showing again. Poor people look scary? Don't take a drive through. Park your car and get out for a walk and meet people.

airdvr and Turtle can't seem to understand that its not us v them. That as soon as the cuffs are on you stand the suspect up. That the suspect is a convicted felon is irrelevant. That the suspect has a long rap sheet is irrelevant. That just because you had a 1/2 hour car chase. A five hundred yard foot chase where you lost your sunglasses that cost forty bucks and ripped the back of your pants climbing a fence.

That after all that you treat the suspect with respect, you stand him up after cuffing them and ensure that any of their injuries are immediately treated. Because thats your job and you're a professional.

Instead a ride along will show you the zoo where the animals prowl. Looking to feast on society, white society. Double check the Glock because the animals are out. Tighten down the vest and turn off the camera. Tonight there will be some rough justice for those sunglasses on that last shift, f*#king animals don't deserve to live here.

You should really take a ride along.  Your skills as a writer are about as good as mine.

Nope.  They should put their things down and join them in such numbers that there are no riots.

I think that is fantasy.

I also think you know it.

I think it was you, maybe not, that commented on what happens when you leave the customers to mind the store.?

What doesn't help is when the President of the United States says the hopes George Floyd is looking down and saying it is a great day for him. And that today is a great day for equality.

What does appear to be a fantasy is the idea of having a president who at least tries to unite.

I've not said what happened to George wasn't wrong.  We all know it's wrong.  We're talking about fixes and in order to understand how to fix it you must first understand what's wrong.  You won't do that from behind a computer screen.  Do some cops have an attitude?  You bet.  I think they grow tired of risking their lives for those who don't appreciate them.  Do some citizens have an attitude?  You bet.  I think they grow tired of being policed and would much rather be left to their own fates.  How about we try that for a while?

That man has a way with words, no?<eyeroll>

Could he possibly have meant that all the attention that is being garnered over Floyd's death will hopefully (Inevitably I hope) lead to something better, and more equal?
