stopping the spam

just wondering about all the spam recently.  as a way to possibly stop it you could make all new accounts wait a week or so before they are able to post any new threads.  you could allow new accounts to answer or make a comment, but not start a new topic until certain age or posting limit is reached, like maybe answer 4 or 5 comments then you can make a new thread.  something like that.

the spam is getting bad.  you could also moderate the comments from new accounts, say less than a month or two old.  that way, they can start any topic they want but only after approval.  if you want a mod just to do that, i can help.

This is something we've looked into - perhaps we should again. We try to do a sweep of the forums each morning and remove any spammers, but occasionally it does seem to get out of hand.

Your suggestion is a good one though, will have to see if there's a way to do this within the CMS we're using.

I just took a look inadvertently (it was updated after I clicked "mark read.") It's pretty awful, and certainly pointless at the moment, unless people want to surf porn. I'm assuming he has it in for the previous poster, because he's using his name with a number added on the end as a userid.
