Guest #1 Posted April 22, 2020 (edited) In reading this it's obvious that more research is needed, but if true, it explains why viruses which are harmless in bats can be so lethal in humans. This paper says evidence suggests that bats have hyperactive immune systems, which of course makes viruses work like mad to overcome them. Bats don't give a sh**, they just keep fighting right back with hyperimmunity, so when one of these viruses does the zoonotic thing, it's devastating, and apparently there are LOTS of them: "This suggests that bat immune defenses may drive the evolution of faster transmitting viruses, and while bats are well protected from the harmful effects of their own prolific viruses, other creatures like humans are not." https://elifesciences.org/articles/48401 Edited April 22, 2020 by Guest
