Phil1111 1,183 #1 Posted April 17, 2020 Evidently Jerry Falwell Jr.’s university is facing a legal action for endangering and profiteering off the lives of his students. He has tried to have journalists arrested and lied about infections at Liberty University faculty, students. He ran full page newspaper ads that were false and blamed the national media for his problems
skybytch 273 #2 April 17, 2020 Jerry Jr falls just as well as his daddy did. Chip off the ol' block!
kallend 2,148 #3 April 17, 2020 I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who are stupid enough to pay to send their kids to places like Liberty U. Or for students stupid enough to apply. Jerry Falwell Jr. net worth estimated to be $110 MILLION. I don't see that camel making it through the eye of a needle. (Matthew 19:24)

Or twelve monthly payments, interest free, $199 a month.

(Matthew 19:24) Oh come on Kallend, you're trying to say that a highschool Junior/Senior applying to college is going to have the worldly wherewithal to be able correctly assess something like the truth of religion and religious profiteering? Most of them spent their entire lives being brainwashed by their parents and the church. That is a segment of society where critical thinking and independent thought are NOT allowed. But upon reflection you nailed it. The lack of critical thinking is typical of some Asian societies, communist societies and religious groups. Authoritarian leadership is generally the cause. They go to have their views reinforced.

As in not permitted. As in 'actively discouraged'. As in 'the people who ask those sorts of questions get punished'. I was raised Catholic Sunday school, Altar boy, all that (no, I was never molested). Not actual 'Catholic School', which turned out to be a really good thing. My parents were both scientists. Chemists. I still don't completely understand how they could have the beliefs they did and the educations they did at the same time, but that's on them. With 'scientific' parents, I was encouraged from early on to wonder, ask and seek answers. Facts. Proof. So as I got older (still in grade school), I started to wonder about the inconsistencies in the Bible. How did the earth stop without inertia causing everything to fly east? How were there lambs at the time of Jesus' birth in December? Who made God? The teachers were not very willing to try to address these subjects. If I had been in 'real' Catholic school, I probably would have had a lot of problems. As it was, I got pulled from Sunday school in third or fourth grade. My parents taught me that while there was some basis in truth of the stories, most of them were simply a way of teaching lessons. I could get behind that idea and tried to learn and apply the lessons. Until I realized that it was far more about power and control than it was about lessons. Which is an entirely different story. 5 hours ago, gowlerk said: People who go to that sort of school do not go there to have their views challenged. They go to have their views reinforced. Bingo. It probably also applies to people who are in racially-other groups in societies where they are discriminated against. After all, if a minority has to be better than the insider in all identifiable ways to be considered OK, there's not a lot of incentive to push back, either. Wendy P. My youngest daughter once wanted to go there. She was trying to chase a boy. I was very nice and non-judgmental with her. I helped her research the "university". Thankfully it didn't take long. I'm happy they make clear their priority on prayer meetings and the student requirements to attend those and church. Her response was "fuck that, god damn that's insane". She made me proud. I love you Brena! UCF complete and on to law school.
