billvon 3,114 #1 Posted February 29, 2020 All you non-white, diversity-supporting, energy-saving people that is. The genesis of Naomi Seibt has been fascinating. When Greta Thunberg first came on the world stage, climate change deniers and US right wingers ignored her for a bit, hoping she would go away. She didn't. Then they started in with the personal attacks - she braids her hair like a Nazi, she's "ignorant and maniacal" and "needs a spanking." She's "mentally ill." They'd photoshop pictures of her to make her look absurd. That backfired. Turns out most people (even some Republicans!) find personal attacks against a 15 year old autistic girl - and hopes for violence against her - somewhat distasteful. Then they switched gears into concern troll mode. "I feel really bad for Greta, manipulated by climate activists/her parents/George Soros into doing something she doesn't understand!" "Why, it's child abuse, is what it is." That didn't work either; the evil manipulators proved hard to find. Then they tried the science angle. "After she goes and studies economics in college she can come back and explain that to us." "She's a child, not a scientist." That failed too, primarily because Thunberg kept saying "don't listen to me, listen to the scientists." So they were out of options. The "she's a paid spokesperson" didn't work. "She's not a scientist" didn't work. "She's evil" didn't work. So what to do? Get Naomi! Naomi Seibt is a German climate change denier who has gotten a lot of press with the help of the CPAC. She is now being paid by the Heartland Institute to spread her views. They see her as a perfect foil to Thunberg - after all, she's a young girl! The fact that she is also many of the things they complained about Thunberg being bothers them not at all. And she's perfect in more ways than one. She credits part of her inspiration to white supremacists like Stefan Molyneux, who has said things like "screaming 'racist' at people because blacks are collectively less intelligent is insane" and "You cannot run a high IQ society with low IQ people…these [non-white] immigrants are going to fail...you are importing a gene set that is incompatible with success in a free-market economy.” So they know she's aligned with right wing values on immigration. And perhaps the funniest thing is that even though she's adopted Thunberg's approach - and in fact uses the same phraseology as Thunberg (like "I don't want you to panic", responding to Thunberg's "I want you to panic") - she claims she is nothing like Thunberg, and is not her diametric opposite. “The reason I don’t like the term ‘anti-Greta’ is that it suggests I am an indoctrinated puppet myself,” she said recently. Still, something tells me she likes those checks rolling in from the Heartland Institute.

Good to see young people speaking their minds (or in this case getting paid to say something.) And perhaps now that the right is being told to accept the word of a 19 year old, they will start listening to the input of other kids.

I don't agree with her message, but I don't agree with a lot of people's messages. The original post was focused on the people who claimed Greta Thunberg should be ignored because she was nuts, ugly, a paid shill, too young, too inexperienced, had no qualifications and didn't know her place. Now they are paying a young, inexperienced person without qualifications (who doesn't know her place any better than Thunberg, apparently) to be a shill for them. Funny, that. It seems a typical response, blame Democrats/Progressives/TheLeft for something but be incapable of proving it then nominate/elect/promote someone who is or does that actual thing in a provable way (sometimes in court) and defend them until death or dismemberment. I think projecting is something the Republican party has done for quite some time. Generally when they complain about something, it is exactly what they are doing. It's as hypocritical as defending the extreme alarmism, KNOWING it isn't true. Then, being OK with that lie, even if its a lie, cloaked in exaggeration. The ends justify the means, right? I don't look to an uneducated teenager for the specifics of our policy towards global warming. I'm assuming "extreme alarmism" means she's very loud about us not doing enough but that's why she gets press.
kallend 2,147 #16 March 5, 2020 Naomi has a few stinky skeletons in her closet. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/feb/28/naomi-seibt-anti-greta-activist-white-nationalist-inspiration " A young campaigner who has been hailed by climate sceptics as the right’s answer to Greta Thunberg has previously described a white nationalist who appeared to promote “white genocide” theories as one of her “inspirations”. Naomi Seibt, a 19-year-old from Münster, Germany, who styles herself as a “climate realist”, has also had to deny she made remarks that could be seen as antisemitic following an attack on a synagogue last year." etc.

And "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun." And "Pelosi is coming for your guns." And "I don't want to be a sheep." Etc etc. Scare them/anger them as much as possible. That helps gun sales, which directly helps the NRA, so the right wing is happy.
