Cringeworthy Facepalm - Let's play the blame game

Well, it is animalistic.  There have been "stampede" deaths at soccer games and rock concerts too.

I agree - but don't you think they could have been more sensitive about it?

I, personally, wouldn't really want to be included into a group that is referred to as having the same behavior as herding animals.  Would you?

Stampede is the common English language word for this kind of tragic event. Do you have a different word you would propose to sooth your offended feelings. And dry your crocodile, er....turtle tears?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_human_stampedes_and_crushes

Human stampedes and crushes. Crushes often occur during religious pilgrimages and large entertainment events, as they tend to involve dense crowds, with people closely surrounded on all sides.

Damn right I would. You've not heard the parable of the Old Bull and the Young Bull?

You mean like calling sports teams names like Rams, or Colts, or Bucks?   Or saying someone is as strong as a bull or gentle as a lamb?  Those seem . . . not uncommon, and very few people get bent out of shape by them.

With all of those, you have a choice to be associated with them or not.

Turtle, "stampede" is, in fact, the word used. Just as people will say a "gaggle of teenagers" or "cathouse."

  • A sord of mallards
  • A sounder of wild swine/boars/foxes
  • A span of mules
  • A spring of teal
  • A squabble of seagulls
  • A stand of flamingo
  • A stench of skunks
  • A streak of tigers
  • A string of ponies/horses
  • A stud of mares
  • A swarm of ants/bees/eels
  • A team of horses/ducks/oxen
  • A swarm of bees
  • A thunder of hippos

So, then, calling a guy a stud would be referring to him as an animal? :P:P:P

Wendy P.

Yes, actually.  Although, in today's world, that is grounds for HR to write you up for inappropriate sexual comments.  How dare you liken a <s> Guy</s> Person, to a forced breeding animal.:o
