Mexico doesn't seem too eager to actually comply.

What's the saying - Why are you upset about being watched, if you aren't doing anything wrong.

It sounds to me a lot like the Iran deal - Insofar as they will welcome the deal, but won't actually comply with the specifics.

I don't see the down side with making a deal and ensuring that the stipulations are met.

I do see a downside with being so naive, or aloof, that we should trust them to do the right thing.

Absolutely.  Any trade deals we make in our hemisphere need to also improve the working conditions in those countries.  There's a direct correlation to illegal immigration and illegal work practices and enforcing those agreements is cheaper than a wall and enforcing a border.

Because your government is unlikely to agree to it.

I don't see why we wouldn't allow partner countries a means of ensuring that the specifics of trade agreements could be plainly observed.  I'm also unable to point to any example that would demonstrate this, I have no idea how we ensure that things like child labor or safety laws are adhered to in other countries.

What I think is that trade groups in country A would want their competition in country B to be held to the same standards and oversight as they are as a privilege of being able to sell their goods in country A.

So you would agree with Canadian and Mexican inspectors in the US to ensure the US is living up to their stipulations?

Yes - I absolutely hope that they will completely abolish any child labor and unsafe work practices/environments, if we aren't able to.

All of the international inspections were showing Iran was living up to the deal, until the US violated it.

It's not really thread drift when the OP (YOU) have it in the initial conversation post.
