Cornholio 0 #1 June 4, 2006 Third jump of the day #483, I had my lineover. After pumping the rear risers a few times, it didn't clear. I looked at the alti and I was at 2100'. Thought about chopping it, but then thought I would give it one more shot by releasing the brakes and giving it one quick pump. Lucky me, it cleared. We inspected the canopy afterwards and there didn't appear to be any damage. Did two more jumps today with no problems. I have the video posted on my web site right now, but will upload it to skydivingmovies.com soon. Low and Hi-Res versions below. http://www.almgren.net/sky/Lineover-sm.wmv 2.5MB http://www.almgren.net/sky/Lineover.wmv 9.0MB Enjoy! Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! I'm sure it varies from canopy to canopy and the nature of the lineover, and worrying about the danger of suddenly going into a spin/linetwists while attempting to clear a lineover by releasing toggles... Does this sort of thing happen?

Cornholio 0 #8 June 4, 2006 Skybytch: Thanks! I was very very VERY happy it cleared and I didn't have to chop it. I thought I'd share my enthusiasm with the viewer. sdctlc: Yes, that was my Spectre190 - loaded at about 1.20. Reginald: I paid for that one. The packer has done me good in the past, and it was his 3rd lineover in 2-3 years, so it's all good. mdrejhon: It wasn't spinning fast or barely at all, just bucking back and forth (as you can see the sun in the video the entire time.) Only when it cleared, did it dive forward and spin around once. When I checked alti before I cleared, I was at 2100. Afterwards, I was at 1850 I think. Just a note, if this were to happen below 2000 I would have chopped it without even thinking about it, but I still had a couple seconds left to play with it. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! hookitt 1 #9 June 4, 2006 Look closely. When you released the brakes, it allowed the tail to slide out from behind the inner most d-line. It was trapped in the d/c cascade. That type of line over is initially encouraged when turning the tail inward and pulling the stabalizers around before wrapping it and putting it on the groundMy grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... pilotdave 0 #10 June 4, 2006 Quoteit was his 3rd lineover in 2-3 years Is that supposed to be a good record?? Or are you just pointing out that you knew the risk you were taking by having him pack? Dave
Cornholio 0 #11 June 5, 2006 Id' say that's a pretty good record for packing tandem and sport rigs every weekend, every year for 2-3 years. Say 40/weekend (very low estimate) * 52 weeks * 2 years = 3 lineovers in 4160 pack jobs. I can live with that average. I'm 1 for 300, so he's got a better average than me. Butthead: Whoa! AFFI 0 #12 June 5, 2006 Be careful to not saw lines back and forth across the canopy during any malfunction correction attempt as the friction heat could cause severe damage to the canopy. aironscott 3 #13 June 5, 2006 Cool footage - thanks for posting it. Everyone out there should know - and you have the video proof - that you can clear many lineovers. Hookit I usually tend to agree with you but that looks like it was the tail through the break lines above the cascade. I could be wrong and I'll watch it a couple of more times to try to be sure. Either way you did the right thing Beavis. Well done. Again thanks for sharing that. GravityGirl 0 #14 June 5, 2006 I would say that Nick packs well over 100 canopies a weekend. I would also say that he was rushed to make your call on Saturday. hookitt 1 #15 June 5, 2006 Yeah, watch it a few more times. Download the larger version and play it full screen. The line inside the blue cell is the culprit. Scrumpot 1 #20 June 5, 2006 We have a club for just such an event out here, corn. Welcome to the "Lisa-san Lineover" club, where you are now member #3! To be a member of the club, as you have just done, you must actually CLEAR the lineover above/before your hard-deck. Any violation of that instead, places you into an entirely different club altogether. Blues, -Grantcoitus non circum - Moab Stone

Cornholio 0 #24 June 7, 2006 Well since I'd never seen one before I thought I'd try just about anything to make it go away!
