Even with Judy W. doing her best to bait him. As to what was first put out, I don't really know. However, one continuing problem ( IMO ) is that the news folks jump all over a story when they have very little knowledge of the truth. A perfect example is Mr. O'Donnell putting out the story about Trump having the Russians co-signing for him. I for one am more than willing to wait a day or so & get the truth. Jerry Baumchen Hey Jerry, The sensationalism of the news is a real problem, IMO. BUT Inaccurate news is very different to fake news. I would love to see some sort of penalization system for news outlets that propagate stories before they can verify / analyze them. The media ‘holding politicians accountable’ is all very well but who’s doing the same to them? Quid custodiet ipsos custodes and all that. I don't see it happening much. We seem very willing to brush off inaccurate reporting just to get 'gossip' rather than 'news'. When later information comes out that changes the original story that there's very little push back and the damage has already been done.

They have a little more time to flesh things out usually. The “need” to fill 24 Hours with news started with the first all-news station. And how many of them do we have now, all trying to mine the same news for content? Lots. Ergo all the editorializing. Wendy P.

I do find it interesting that those who want less regulations, who strongly believe that open markets solve all, complain about those market forces when it comes to the press. American society has shown itself to prefer entertainment of reality.

wolfriverjoe 1,523 #37 August 30, 2019 Well, the guy who swore to 'uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States' has (yet again) decided that he gets to pick & choose which laws to 'uphold' and which ones he and his minions can just ignore. So to build his stupid wall, he told people to 'take the land' and if they broke any laws, he would pardon them. When administration officials were asked about this, they said he was 'just joking' (on condition of anonymity, of course). https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2019-08-28/trump-officials-border-wall-pardon?fbclid=IwAR3ulHJ1nEbBI9A_WqZ2m25Mcu_838pZ6C2wxTuO-UxaPh247cg7r4RH46w

billvon 3,114 #41 September 2, 2019 Trump or the Onion? Three Cat 5 hurricanes have hit the US in the past three years, including Maria, the hurricane that decimated Puerto Rico (and the one that led to Trump's attempts to deny them emergency aid." But according to Trump, Dorian is a complete unknown. We don't even know what's coming at us because he's never even heard the term before. "We don't even know what's coming at us. All we know is it's possibly the biggest. I have -- I'm not sure that I've ever even heard of a Category 5. A Category 5 is . . . I don't know that I've ever even heard the term." Best evidence yet that Trump has some form of senile dementia. When Irma hit in 2017 he "never even knew a Category 5 existed." When he surveyed the recovery from Michael earlier this year he had "never heard about Category 5's before. Category 5 is big stuff." Now, a just a few months later he thinks that "a Category 5 is something that, uh - I don't know if I've ever even heard the term."

Well he did give all the credit of the hurricane missing Florida to the Republican governor here, instead of the low IQ black guy that lost the election. Which brings up another subject entirely.
