billvon 3,131 #1 Posted August 4, 2019 A bit of good news for a change. Most US fish stocks are either recovering or have recovered. 91% are not being overfished (i.e. too-high take) and 82% are not in an overfished state (i.e. stock below safe levels.) We are close to having completely sustainable populations of fish. Looks like sometimes that evil socialist nanny-state draconian NOAA gets something right. https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/number-of-us-fish-stocks-at-sustainable-levels-remains-near-record-high
kallend 2,174 #2 August 4, 2019 That is good news for US waters. Not sure if the same is true of worldwide shark populations, and apex predators are needed to keep the oceans healthy. Also just this week came news that North Atlantic Right Whales (yes, I know they're not fish) are seriously endangered. https://www.sciencealert.com/two-percent-of-the-world-s-north-atlantic-right-whales-have-died-in-the-last-two-months
