A balanced and fun economic lesson

Recommended Posts

Sometimes prevention is better than cure. We’re not as worried about Canada; partly because they look just like the most anti-minority of us, and partly because their economic conditions are good enough for them not to want to escape to the US.

Maybe helping other countries, particularly ones we’ve worked hard to exploit in the past, would also help to lower migration. We’re so concerned with keeping everything we have that we forget that sometimes a little seed money lessens the demand in other ways.

Kind of like paying for vaccines, exercise, or education. Yeah, they can run expensive, but not as expensive in the long run as ignorance, disease, and poor health in old age. It’s just that there aren’t any guarantees that every penny spent won’t be wasted, which drives some folks nuts. But the end result is still superior for the pond.

Bill, as you know, estimates of peek oil have never failed to fail.

We go with the best data we have.

The previous estimates of peak oil failed not because they failed to predict the oil reserves we have - it was because they failed to predict that oil prices could rise high enough to make tight oil practical to extract.  The rising price of oil coupled with the increased efficiency of tight oil extraction made tight oil practical.

Plus which it is likely we (as in the world) will come to our senses and decide that putting all that oil in the atmosphere will be too costly, and make a better fiscal decision.
