Michael Kovrig: Canadian ex-diplomat 'held in China'

Canada’s detention of Huawei chief operating officer Meng Wanzhou at the request of Washington has outraged the Chinese government and Chinese public. Despite Ottawa’s explanation that Canada’s independent judicial branch is simply carrying out its extradition treaty obligations to the U.S. without political interference, Beijing has warned Ottawa of “grave consequences” if Meng is not released.

I think we have to play the game with the cards we've been dealt. They are two separate matters as far as we are being told. For now.

On a gut level I think "Fuck the USA and Trump's backing out of the Iran deal." The world needs to find a way to trim the abuse of power the US is doing on this.

I did not vote before I posted and now I can't. For the record I chose options 1,3,and 5.
Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Huawei's CFO to be freed on $10M bail pending extradition to U.S.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/huawei-meng-wanzhou-bail-hearing-vancouver-1.4940849

For sure she will skip bail. Chinese embassy will forward a new passport. No way she is going to a US court and be forced to testify about Iran subsidiaries. payoffs to Chinese govt officials, etc.

A passport for what? She won't need a passport.

But maybe it will free up their two homes here in Vancouver. They are worth $14,000,000 combined.

I'm sure in trump's mind she is. Iran, trade, China, war, deals, etc. The supposed seriousness or Iran nuclear weapons. Its ICBM missile and medium range missiles are all negotiable. Part of his master plan.

There is no doubt the Iranian cell network is being built by Huawei and its busting sanctions. Or is trump fishing for another ZTE deal to solicit bribes for trump enterprises.

"It is “absolutely false” to suggest Canada and the United States engaged in political conspiracy to arrest a high-level Huawei executive, the American ambassador to Canada told reporters in Ottawa Tuesday." This was about eight hours before trump said she could be traded as part of a tariff deal.

Is China Straight-Up Bribing Donald Trump?
May 15, 2018

"When Donald Trump announced on Sunday night that he was riding to the rescue of Chinese electronics maker ZTE, more than a few people, including those who work for him, were shocked. For one thing, Trump has long-claimed that China “is raping us” through unfair trade practices, and stealing American jobs. For another, the U.S. and Beijing are currently locked in tense negotiations to avoid a protracted trade war,...

Trump’s own Commerce Department had banned shipments of American technology to ZTE for seven years, saying that the company violated American sanctions against countries including Iran and North Korea and lied about punishing employees for doing so....

So it was a bit odd to see Trump pull a complete 180, suddenly insisting that the company and its 75,000 Chinese jobs must be saved, though to be fair, tweeting “Look, China just pumped $500 million into a Trump Organization project so I had to do them a solid” might not have gone over so well....

Oh, that’s right—according to multiple news outlets, the president’s total about-face on China came just 72 hours after the developer of a theme park outside Jakarta, known as MNC Lido City, with whom the Trump Organization has an agreement to license its name, signed a deal to receive $500 million in Chinese government loans,"
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/05/is-china-straight-up-bribing-donald-trump-zte

trump's statement and the US Ambassador to Canada's statement directly suggests that Canada was played as a fool. That a false claim for extradition was made to further a US/trump trade/payoff/bribe solicitation arrangement.

For America, for trumpets, that how it works.
All part of the trump chaos.

Trump says Huawei charges on the table in China trade talks      Today

'A real risk': U.S. warns allies against allowing Huawei in 5G networks   Today

Trump hints at a softer stance on Huawei in a bizarre '6G' tweet,

So Huawei violations of the US trade policy isn't about breaking sanctions. Its about, false imprisonment, false charges and bargaining chips.

"I want 5G, and even 6G, technology in the United States as soon as possible. It is far more powerful, faster, and smarter than the current standard. American companies must step up their efforts, or get left behind. There is no reason that we should be lagging behind on.........

....something that is so obviously the future. I want the United States to win through competition, not by blocking out currently more advanced technologies. We must always be the leader in everything we do, especially when it comes to the very exciting world of technology!"  7:59 AM - Feb 21, 2019

So Huawei can spy, no its OK, yes it can.

" The prospect of the U.S. retreating on Huawei drew swift pushback from lawmakers of both parties who have repeatedly warned the company could be used as a spying tool for the Chinese government. Huawei is the world's largest provider of telecommunications equipment, and U.S. officials have been crossing the globe warning other countries to steer clear of Huawei and another Chinese telecom firm, ZTE. ...

“Huawei and ZTE pose a serious national security threat," Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said in a statement following Trump's comments. "They’re Trojan Horses for the Chinese Communist Party, and the free world should stand together in blocking them from our critical infrastructure.”

“It would be a major mistake for President Trump to agree to any deal that fails to hold China accountable for its trade abuses and theft of American intellectual property," said Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.)."

US credibility and the rule of law. That ship sailed two years ago, clearing port Jan. 19, 2017.

Thats OK,  US pushes NATO allies to join observer force in Syria

the line forms on the right.

Now that trump and his supporters have burnt the bridge to every alliance in the world. NK and Russia excepted of course. The 300 troops that trump has decided to leave there. Over the objections of republicans on the foreign relations committee. They want substantially more. Can be joined by Russia, trumps best buddy.

Everyone else can sit back and see what Iran does about that.

Dude seriously, wtf is up with all those periods in the middle of your sentences?  I've brought this up before but to no avail.  I've never seen anything quite like it.  I don't even know if there's a name for it.  It's like a run-on sentence, but the opposite.

No biggie, it just made it harder to read.   I thought it might've been a talk-to-text bug or a language thing.
