Hi folks,

'The USDA Rolled Back Protections For Small Farmers. Now The Farmers Are Suing'

Just another shaft of the American people by this administration.

Most people won't be bothered to read that story. But it accurately represents the issues that agriculture faces when abuse takes place arising from consolidation.

In addition it provides a good example as to why regulations came into existence in the first place. Typically they are designed to protect something. More actions in the courts are likely as "deregulation" moves forward. Its amusing to hear the ignorant wail and moan about the burden of US regulations. They need to see whats involved in doing business in the EU. They would find out what regulation and rules are all about.

From the article:

==================
At issue is the Trump administration's withdrawal of two Obama-era rules designed to protect small farmers, who say they are being exploited by the meatpacking companies they supply.

The suit, filed on behalf of OCM by the Capitol Hill legal watchdog Democracy Forward, charges U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and his agency with "arbitrary and capricious" behavior in rolling back those two rules. One of them would have made it easier for individual farmers to sue for anti-competitive behavior.

Many of the farmers affected by the rollback supported Donald Trump for president, believing his promise to look after their interests. Now, the disillusionment is setting in.

West Virginia poultry farmer Mike Weaver is one of them; he says the feeling now among small farmers and ranchers is, "Where's the support that you promised us? We voted for you because you were going to make things right, and it's not happening."

The Sec. of Agriculture is Sonny Perdue. That's a name well known in NC. The Perdue family is one of the largest chicken processors in the country. And he is in charge of regulating that industry. Talk about letting a fox guard the hen house. I think trump chose his cabinet based on their bias toward the regulations they were going to oversee. And anything with Obama's name on it was to be obliterated. If Obama had said something about the solstice or equinox trump would want to change the calendar so Christmas would be in the spring. Actually Jerry, it's a perfect example of a group getting screwed by our government. It's been going on for decades. The only problem with that is you support it for people you agree with. The government needs to get out of picking winners and losers. Until you realize that you'll just still be a partisan hack.

Bill, I grew up on a small farm. My dad was a small farmer. And he still thought what the government did was bullshit. He thought they should get out of control and commodities all together and should let the farm market do as it will do. Again we have an example of the government picking winners and losers depending on who's and political power. But to say this is screwing small farmers is a bunch of bullshit. It's just part of partisan spin and that's part of what you've been doing for a long time here

Sonny Perdue is not one of my favorite people, but in fairness it should be pointed out that he is not from the Perdue family that owns the chicken processing business. [Link (see the end of the section on "early life and education".]

Yep. And Trump's going to screw them just a little bit more.

So you'll now be opposing veteran's benefits and coal power incentives, then?

Veterans? Not so much. But coal, wind, other Renewables, agriculture, gas and oil, and anything else you can think of? I'm all for getting rid of those subsidies and incentives

Never said that.

Just listed items that get subsidies that I don't think should be getting them.

Ah. So it's fine to pick winners and losers as long as you like the winners. Got it.

You want to put veterans into a group like you want to describe fine. I guess I already think they gave enough for you and me. Giving them a little bit back is the least we could do. And we don't do enough now.

We all do this. It would seem as though rushmc only wants people to like & support his 'winners.'

Great Jerry!

Now tell me, who are my winners?

Yep. And giving the poor victims of that hurricane or fire a little something is the least we can do. And giving those hardworking farmers a break - they FEED us! And of course the firefighters of 9/11. True heroes. And the people working to end cancer, of course.

But those Puerto Ricans. All their problems are their own damn fault. Lazy is what they are.

Everyone's got their winners and losers, including you (as you have just so clearly demonstrated.)

I see you used your spin tactics and ignored yet again what I posted. Nice Bill...

Don't blame others for correctly interpreting what you write.

If you wrote in good English then no-one would misunderstand you.

Unfortunately, you and Trump seem to have had the same English teacher.
