Longtime Republican gets his spine back

That's not both ways. I'm referring to him, not the party as a whole. See, that's where you always get in trouble. You think because one rat jumps ship the ship must be sinking. It's possible the rat just panicked.

Ok.. so you think a long term, high level political strategist for the republicans, a man who stuck with the party through both of Clinton's terms, who stuck with the party when Obama was in office and the Dems had both houses of Congress, has now suddenly snapped and is so scared of a completely imaginary anti-republican backlash that he has turned his back on his friends, his colleagues and his career... even though the real tide of public opinion is still with the Republicans?

That's the explanation which makes so much sense to you that anyone who disagrees must be on drugs?

For real?

Ok then.:|

In this country we're still allowed to have our opinions. Your spittle laced diatribe aside, you realize you're defending a politician, correct?

You just might be 100% correct that he's seen the error of his ways, had a come to Jebus moment, and is a really good person.

Oh, I forgot. Liberals don't entertain the possibility they might be wrong.

Just look at history. Liberalism gave you your freedom. When in the past has liberalism been wrong? Conservatism is nothing more than resistance to progress.
Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

What is liberal today will be conservative in a few decades. At that point, of course, the conservatives will find something new and "liberal" to fear.

Go back in time and ask any conservative of the 1960's whether blacks should have all the same rights as whites. "Hell no!" they would say. "It's just not right. God separated the races for a reason." (and from that sentiment came the Southern Strategy.)

Today a conservative becomes angry if you suggest that conservatives think that blacks should not have the same rights.

Thirty years ago conservatives were united against any gay rights at all. Ten year ago they were saying "we have nothing against gays, of course! But marriage is between a man and a woman." Today they are backing away from that, and in another ten years they'll be saying "I was NEVER against gay marriage! That's a liberal lie! Of course I support gay rights."

You really do just see what you want to see, don't you?:D

Btw, in this forum you're allowed to question the opinions that other posters put forwards. Maybe you think that shouldn't be allowed, but please keep those ideas to your own country - I prefer free speech that goes both ways, thanks:)
Btw x 2, yes I do realize. Many politicians and political workers are honourable, principled people. Maybe your absolutism doesn't allow you to see that, maybe it's just easier for you to assume they're all the same but sorry bro, the world isn't that simple.

You just posted this. Literally just now.

"Do you seriously believe this guy is falling on the sword? I need some of what you're smoking."

So yeah, teach me how to be as tolerant of other opinions as you, oh great master!:D:D

I'm sorry I'm not as edumacated as you. Didn't you guys learn in the last election the elitist attitude fact based worldview you wrap yourself in doesn't wash with the average voter?

That would be factually incorrect, both before and after the correction. Clinton won the popular vote. That's the outcome you have to look at to see what the "average voter" wanted.

That being said, even if real-news world-viewers were slightly outnumbered by fake-news world-viewers, the problem would still be with those who can't see past their own confirmation bias to recognize truth when they see it.

So you think Liberalism is always correct? I guess it depends on your slant. I wonder if Roe v. Wade got it right. You guys killed nuclear energy in this country. Obamacare? Please. Am I concerned about men who identify as women and such? Not really. NAFTA?

The list is long on your side as well.

IMO most reasonable people think that there are some good points on the left and right sides of the aisle; they compliment each other, and in theory should work to find a balance that extracts the best of both worlds and benefits the most people whilst doing the least damage. This whole 'anybody who doesn't hang on Trump's every word is a moron lib-tard' is getting tired. Take a step back, look at the facts and make an informed decision. Blindly believing what the angry white people on TV are screaming is dangerous.

1/ The government has no buisness telling women what is right for them. So yes the SCOTUS ruling is correct.

2/ I'm a liberal and I'm more or less ok with nuclear power. But it is too expensive to compete.

3/ Obamacare? That is a piece of shit compromise because your country can not get it's shit together enough to give healthcare to poor people. Mainly because it is seen as giving free stuff to dark skinned people. It is not even a little liberal by world standards.

4/ NAFTA is a trade agreement made by conservative politicians to serve corporate interests. Has nothing to do with liberals. But trade in general enriches all.

Come on now. Is that the best you can do? Hell, you live in a liberal democracy. Does that not mean anything to you?

>So you think Liberalism is always correct?

Nope. Sometimes it moves too fast. Sometimes it does a poor job balancing the rights of different groups of people.

>I wonder if Roe v. Wade got it right.

It was a victory for women's rights, so overall, yes. The future involves more rights for more people, so that was a move in the right direction.

>You guys killed nuclear energy in this country.

I think Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima killed development of new nuclear energy in this country. Cheap solar and wind also had a lot to do with it. Fortunately, those evil liberals are working to bring it back (Terrapower by Gates, NuPower.)

>Obamacare? Please.

Sure. Getting health care coverage for almost 20 million uninsured Americans was a pretty good achievement.

As usual Fox news is wrong.

"The nuclear species is going extinct,” Mycle Schneider, lead author, World Nuclear Industry Status Report, September 12, 2017

"The "nuclear renaissance" that we have long waited for is falling short. In the wake of the 2011 Fukushima disaster, the number of new projects has drastically dropped. Among other things, they’ve been plagued by huge cost overruns, lower cost competitors, public fear, an aging workforce, rare required materials, and often unmanageable waste problems.

According to the World Nuclear Industry Status Report, the number of construction starts of nuclear reactors worldwide has sunk from a high of 15 in 2010, to 10 in 2013, to 8 in 2015, to 3 in 2016, and to just 1 in the first half of 2017. And most tellingly, premature nuclear shutdowns are occurring in even the richest nations."

Why let fact get in the way of political bias.

******Trump is driving a lot of the moderates out of the GOP - some right into the arms of the democrats, who have been moving to the right for a while.

I read three stories in the lase week where republican ;eaders were going democrat.

The biggest factor will be republicans who don't turn out for midterms and democrats who are motivated to turn out.

On another note, did you predict a Hillary landslide too?

No, but I knew there would be a train wreck if the orange, lying, idiot was elected.
