Unwritten DZ Rules

Some of the mistakes I made during the first couple of months at the DZ
Hire kit and manifesting - During my consols - i was manifesting like it was going out of fashion, just getting more and more kit out of the kit store. Seems the procedure is to wait for that piece of kit to be packed and ready before hiring out more kit and manifesting. Ooops.
Don't touch the hire kit - During a flight line check on one of my consols, one of the instructors casually mentioned that at some point "You'll need to do this yourself" referring to CYPRES and reserve pins. So next time i get kit out and I notice the CYPRES on, i decide to turn it off, then on - thus making sure it's not going to turn off mid jump. Hooo Harrr did i get my balls roasted. Seems I took the instructor a little too literally and hire kit (having been packed and signed for by a packer) don't get touched by students! You check your own CYPRES and reserve pins on YOUR OWN RIG.
Dark goggles - for Pre-FS1, novice skydivers. Down to the CCI I guess, but ours dont like 'em. He said that there's a vogue for these things but made some good points. When in the aicraft, he cant see your eyes, he doesn't know where you're looking or if you're paying attention to him during the flight. I said that it's sunny, he said that you're falling towards something that's dark! Also, some WARP/SkyU coaches want you to wear clear goggles so that there is good eye contact during the freefall.
Oh yeah, buy lots of beer.
