Condolences Thread: Cal City Incident - July 4, 2005

Recommended Posts

I searched for a condolence thread for Dr. Rathbun, but couldn't find one. Forgive me if this is a duplicate.

Had a hard time finding out information regarding the death of our family's doctor, Dr. Stephen Rathbun. Almost didn't believe it was true, since I could find no information on it anywhere for a couple of days. A post in your Incidents forum confirmed the rumor that he had indeed passed away due to a sky diving accident. I was amazed to see the media attention to the NJ and Ohio tragedies, and only one lonely newspaper article in Bakersfield to report the tragedy of this life lost.

I wanted to say what a good doctor he was. He has taken care of our family for 9 years. He was there for us through some of the best times, 4 children, and some of the worst times. He never judged, always listened, always had heartfelt advice... He would pull up his stool and sit and took a genuine interest in why we were there.

His office had beautiful photos in it that he and his wife had taken on vacations they went on. Photos from an African safari and from Italy...

We will miss him... it is still hard to believe that he won't be there the next time...

He was full of life and obviously life to the fullest.

That's a wonderful tribute, and I hope his family and friends see it. They need to.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
