I'm thinking the Korean Peninsula as we now know it may soon cease to exist.

Given that the North Korean government seems to have no qualms about using a nuclear bomb if they can fire one at us and/or South Korea, I'd agree.

Those fuckers seem to be the only country in the world willing to do so without a conscience.

Maybe, maybe not.

I won't disagree about the lack of conscience. Kim Jong Un and his entourage will do anything to anyone to stay in power.

He takes out opponents, even relatives, with regularity, although the reported ways & means that he uses are probably exaggerated.
The DPRK is damned near a medieval, feudal kingdom. Certainly a "hereditary kingdom." Absolute power, son takes over from the dead father, all that. Including, of course, the familial ties and loyalties, treacheries and rivalries. KJU has absolute power, but faces internal threats.

But his endgame is to stay in power.
I would bet KJU knows full well that he would never win a war with the west.
If he attacks conventionally, he will basically repeat 1950. Huge advances south until the US can get forces into position, and then he'd get clobbered. And it's unlikely the Chinese would enter this time, so he'd be done within a few months.

If he uses nukes, Pyong Yang will become the proverbial "glass parking lot".

Given that KJU has remained in power for as long as he has, he's at least reasonably smart.
Much of his rhetoric is directed at his own people. He uses it to make himself look more powerful and retain control.

He likes to push the west to the limit, and then just a little bit further. Each time he gets away with just a bit more. Never far enough to generate real reaction or consequences.

Actual attacks (conventional or nuke) would result in those real consequences.

In a rather perverse and almost funny way, Trump as president may make him more circumspect.
With previous presidents, he knew they were conservative, predictable and very unlikely to make rash decisions.

KJU is likely smart enough to understand that Trump is none of those. And that if he pushes "just a bit", Trump may well overreact.

Completely agree.

Trump's unpredictability may be the answer needed for Un's unpredictability.

China's national airline, Air China, has canceled some flights to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, due to poor demand but it has not suspended all flights there, it said on Friday, denying a report by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

CCTV had reported that all flights run by the airline between the two cities were to be suspended indefinitely.

"Air China did not stop operation of the Beijing to Pyongyang route, but temporarily canceled some flights based on the situation of ticket sales," said a person in Air China's communications team.

Well, after showing both a new ICBM and a Sub-Launched missile (SLBM) at their parade, they had one blow up almost immediately after launch.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/north-korean-missile-launch-fails-almost-immediately-u-s-military-n747006

Its one thing to have nukes (of questionable reliability). Its "a whole 'nuther thing" to develop the delivery capability. Not an easy thing.

Ask the US Air Force & NASA. Or the Soviets. A lot of rockets & missiles got turned into very expensive fireworks during the fifties & sixties.

I would hazard a bet that most if not all, the missiles they boasted in the parade were fakes, or just concept missiles that aren't flight-worthy, yet.

A whole lot of hot air and chest beating. Typical North Korean propaganda.

"Fuck you. We'll test missiles weekly." replies North Korea...

Oh, ,this is going to end well... We already know that the pres reacts poorly to people mocking him. (Probably on account of his tiny penis and giant ego) and while NK may or may not have ICBM technology (probably not), and may or may not have nuclear warheads of some description (probably), they certainly have enough weaponry to cause full scale carnage in any war they're involved in, and (I think) the craziness to use everything in their arsenal.

It's not going to be good.

If there is one country in the world with as less stable and more narcissistic leader than the USA, it's North Korea. It's not hard to imagine the two of them in a pissing contest.

They'll test missiles weekly, but we'll be sabotaging them quietly. I just don't know how. There have been rumors that we've been secretly messing with their launches.

While that protects mainland US from being nuked (which is great), it doesn't help the entire world much if Kim-Jong-Nutcase sets a bunch off on the Korean peninsula because Trump dares him to. Or launches chemical weapons against Seoul using artillery.

I'm not sure what the solution to the NK problem is (probably getting China to annex NK after assassinating the entire leadership), but brinkmanship between Trump and the NK leader is seriously worrying.
If Kim-Jong-Un feels like he's forced into a no-win position (which in his mind might possibly be as simple as backing down from a threat), there's a real possibility he'll say 'fuck it' and preemptively burn the whole place down.

>"Don't test Trump" warns vice president to North Korea.

North Korea better watch their step. If they don't stop those missile launches, Trump may send a carrier group to Tahiti.

News outlets asked the command in Hawaii about the fleet being sent to Korea and their response was basically, "That's news to us too."

Well, come on. He's not going to attack the DEMOCRATIC people's republic of Korea. He's going to attack that other one, the one without democracy.

Hopefully he knows the difference between the two.

South Korea
Trump’s name adorns six condominium buildings in Seoul, Busan and Daegu. Dubbed "Trump World," they were erected by Daewoo, the South Korean corporation, which pays Trump for the use of his name.

You think he wouldn't demand Daewoo keep paying, even after he bombed them flat?

If Kim Jong Un really wanted to piss him off he would say he's going to hit Trump's properties in Seoul if the US strikes NK.

And yes, he would demand payment but they would say NK has to pay for it.
