Bill would stop warrantless border device searches of US citizens

The problem is that when you are inside the Customs zone, you are in an international treaty no-man's land: you are not where you came from but you are not yet where you are going. Laws and protections do not apply and the government(s) can do just about anything they want to you or to what you are carrying. AFAIK not even the international convention on human rights applies inside the zone...cavity search, anyone? They can do it just because they feel (heh) like it and don't have to provide warrant or just cause.

My only suggestion (as someone who used to work for USCS a long time ago) is to encrypt, encrypt, encrypt and absolutely refuse to cooperate. If you are not suspected of having violated any US or international law, you cannot be held indefinitely without being charged (yah I know...Gitmo. But we're not talking about some hadjii thugs, we're talking about legitimate travelers/border crossers). I welcome the remarks of others in this thread.

In the meantime: fuck 'em. If you miss your connection, it's costly but it isn't the end of the world. Your human rights and your dignity are worth upholding.

"If you're innocent, you have nothing to hide." BULLSHIT: If you're innocent, you should be left the fuck alone to go about your own damn business.

If you are an American citizen, I agree. They eventually will have to let you into the country and are therefor able to not cooperate.

As a non-US citizen if you do not cooperate you will be denied entry.

Mostly why I have since routed all international travel around the US and cancelled any trip to the US.
