When so many people act in ways that seem to be against Islam, and not extremism (the whole "no mosque in my town," or "pig races" or other statements that make it clear that it's not extremist acts but Islam), it's not hard to see it as Islamophobia.

But I also agree with Iago about the unwillingness of some to engage across a wider divide than they're comfortable with.

I've heard it said that in marriage if you think you're doing 50% you're not, it's almost certainly less. Both parties should think they're doing more than their "fair share." The same goes for engaging with others. If no one, liberal or conservative, is willing to step outside their comfort zone, then no ones ever going to do anything but yell.

Everybody's to blame in this have-it-your-way-all-the-time world.

You've got it backwards. The fault of the left is they did NOT want to engage in conversation. Particularly the younger ones that are so micro aggressed they can't function if someone says something a smidge less than PC in their presence. Oh yeah sure, they'll have a conversation provided you don't say something contrary to their beliefs at the vegan coffee shop that only uses organic soymilk because whole milk s cruel.

Do and be shouted down as a racist homophobic xenophobe that hates everything even a shade darker than all purpose baking flour.

Hmm, kinda like how people on the right refer to everyone left of center as a non-functional micro-aggressed vegan?

I have seen the 3 mosques in the Orlando area I drive by on occasion have had 24hr cops protection for some time now.
No cops at the christian churches though.

Kinda sad to see that someone's beliefs now require armed protection.

You think I'm wrong? Fine. That's your opinion.

But at least you and I can have a conversation about that.

Sure, but both sides have to respect the other. I don't see any more close-mindedness coming out of either side. The center of both sides is usually reasonable. The fringes will never concede that the other side is right, or even that they have honest intentions. Unfortunately, the fringes are getting louder every day.

And I'm not a began, I still eat fish and dairy.;)

> The fault of the left is they did NOT want to engage in conversation.

Their attempt to do so was their mistake. Clinton said during one of the debates, when she was being goaded by Trump, that she would "take the high road" and stick to issues. Trump, rather than discussing issues, called her a "nasty woman" "crooked" "a puppet" "dumb" "confused" "stupid" "a fraud" "incompetent" "pathetic" - and he won.

No one wanted to hear the issues. They wanted red meat - bad stuff about their opponent. Trump delivered. Clinton did not - and she lost.

Better than being called a lying cunt if you're a woman who doesn't support Trump.

But when it's a christian church that needs armed guards, you insult their religion and ask why doesn't their God help them. . .

There is a difference in mocking a belief and rights to a belief.
I've never disagreed or attacked your right to your own version of insanity, I just don't agree with it, nor will I tolerate it being force fed to me.
You can have at it.

Helen Beristain voted for Donald Trump even though she is married to an undocumented immigrant. In November, she thought Trump would deport only people with criminal records -- people he called "bad hombres" -- and that he would leave families intact. "I don't think ICE is out there to detain anyone and break families, no," Beristain told CNN affiliate WSBT in March, shortly after her husband, Roberto Beristain was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

On Wednesday, Beristain was proven wrong as ICE split her family across two countries.

I voted for Trump. Now he wants to cut the aid I need

by Heather Long
May 24, 2017 CNN/Money

Krista Shockey voted for President Trump in November. Now she's one of the people who might get hurt under his plan to cut safety net programs for the poor and disabled.

Shockey is on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a program to help low-income Americans who are disabled. The monthly payment is just over $700 a month.

"It's my only income," Shockey told CNNMoney in the fall, when we first met her at Diner 23 in Waverly, a small town in southern Ohio that's seen better days. "I couldn't live" without it.

She was stunned to hear the president wants to downsize SSI. She hadn't heard about it until CNNMoney called her.

When releasing Trump's budget Tuesday, the White House hailed it as a "taxpayer first" plan. Trump's goal is to get millions of people off welfare and into full-time jobs. For Shockey, that won't be easy.

"There's no way I could go back to work," Shockey said this week. "I've got a lot of problems. I'm crippled in my feet, knees, back, hands."

. . . .

"Honestly, I haven't been following much (news). I've got so much going on with my family. My mother died," she said.

I have reached the point where I simply do not care what happens to her. She made her choice ( probably stupidly ), now she gets to live with the results. Nothing new about that.

So let's see, it's been how many months since Trump was inaugurated and they've now found two? Man they're on a roll aren't they Bill.

Hundreds of thousands, actually. Even FOX News readers and the undereducated (two of his strongest groups of supporters) are starting to realize what a mistake they made. From Newsweek:
=============================
Trump's Approval Ratings Are Even Plunging in Right-Leaning Poll Reports
Chris Riotta
5/30/17

Donald Trump doesn't seem to mind that less than half of the country supports his presidency. The president shared a photo on Twitter Thursday that showed him clapping in front of an American flag with his most recent poll numbers from the right-leaning Rasmussen Reports, which placed his approval index at 48 percent. Trump wrote: "Thank you for your support. Together, we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

But by Monday, Rasmussen's score of Trump's young presidency was plunging, dipping to 44 percent upon his arrival back to Washington after his first trip abroad since assuming the Oval Office. That figure is much closer to virtually every other poll as of recent, which places Trump’s popularity among voters at nearly 42 percent, according to Gallup's three-day rolling average.

Even Fox News scored the president’s approval ratings last week at just 40 percent. The network’s analysis showed white voters and Americans without a college degree—two demographics crucial to Trump’s base during the 2016 election—were beginning to sharply disapprove of the president’s overall performance more than ever before.

I actually didn't write that post.

For fun I was working on a small script that would reply to any random post of Bill's in this forum with a selection of Rush-isms.

It shouldn't have posted anything just yet. Obviously I've got some tweaking to do. :D

Seemed realistic enough to me.

Adding a few typos would improve realism.
