Yemen Withdraws Permission for U.S. Antiterror Ground Missions

Recommended Posts

“The raid that was conducted in Yemen was an intelligence-gathering raid,” he said. “That’s what it was. It was highly successful. It achieved the purpose it was going to get, save the loss of life that we suffered and the injuries that occurred.”

What makes him think that any of that information is going to be of any use now. With all the publicity surrounding this f-up, I'm sure Al Qaeda will have changed their plans and operating methods by now (I'm sure I'd have contingency plans in place in the event that data was compromised)

I'll admit I wasn't aware Yemen had anything resembling a functional government, even in exile. However, it's not shocking that any government would take a disapproving tone towards military actions on their own soil, even in an effort to extinguish its own enemy. Their government even before it fell had a mixed bag of support for US operations going back to the Cole incident. Their missile batteries would regularly paint our incoming military cargo aircraft just because they knew the pilots would launch flare countermeasures. Many of them just didn't give a fuck about what we wanted.

Not surprised to see they won't bar drone strikes, it's easier to tell their citizens they can't do anything about them.
