Democrats Self Immolate

The main villain in the Great Recession was the greedy American people. Banks just found ways meet that demand. Clinton and Bush can take some blame for policies which pushed home ownership on folks who had neither the financial nor social wearwithal to handle it. Barney Frank said he had no problem rolling the dice with the banks money, if it ment more home ownership for the poor. This created an artificial demand spike which effected the whole housing market.

So you're not only no longer supporting your earlier statement, you're actively arguing against it?

Revisionist history. Clinton pressured Fannie and Freddie to lower their underwriting standards in the 90's. Bush warned congress that Fannie and Freddie were potential problems in 2001.

By 2005 the hot mess was getting ready to boil over. Barney Frank doubled down and told congress everything was OK.

The banks knew they had shit for loans and started dumping them. When so many went belly up on the insured CDOs the insurers (AIG et.al) didn't have the capital to pay the claims. And the house of cards came tumbling down.

Who was at fault? Everyone. Mostly the financial institutions. But to lay that recession as W's complete and total responsibility is to ignore the facts.

Revisionist history.

What is, Brent's post? Take that up with him, I'm not defending it.

I think you're confused. This discussion started because Brent was blaming Obama for the recession getting worse before he even took office. Brent is also the only person in this thread to have even mentioned Bush's name.

So to be honest, I really have no idea what you think you're replying to?

Sure. But in the entire thread I still have no idea who he thinks he's talking to.

"Hundreds have responded to a Facebook "Chicago moons Trump Tower" event, during which protesters plan to drop their trousers in front of Trump Tower Chicago.

According to the Facebook page for the event titled "Operation "Kiss Our Asses, Release Your Taxes," the goal of the protest is to get President Trump to release his tax returns.

"In 2006, a Maryland state circuit court determined that mooning is a form of artistic expression protected by the First Amendment as a form of speech," the event page says. "Donald Trump doesn't think the American people want to see his tax returns, so let's show him that we do in the classiest way possible!"

Protestors will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Trump Tower Chicago, and plan to moon the building for 10 seconds starting at 4 p.m. in what event organizers call "a powerful message to Washington elites."

Sure I'll buy a condo in a trump building and look at a bunch of_______ for the next four years. Honey what was the name of that real estate broker "Anywhere But Here".

I recall your support for the over 60 pointless attempts to repeal Obamacare under Obama

It is going to get done this time:)
Even your own party is laughing at you now! Boehner today:

"They'll fix Obamacare. I shouldn't have called it repeal and replace because that's not what's going to happen. They're basically going to fix the flaws and put a more conservative box around it. . . . All this happy talk that went on in November and December and January about repeal, repeal, repeal -- yeah we'll do replace, replace -- I started laughing because if you pass repeal without replace, first, anything that happens is your fault. You broke it."

He's laughing at all the people who actually believed the GOP's ~60 fake attempts to repeal it. Looks like it worked on you.

Update:

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL): "I don't know if we're going to be able to repeal Obamacare now because these folks who support Obamacare are very active, they're putting pressure on congressman and there's not a counter-effort to steal the spine of some of these congressmen in tossup districts around the country. And you may not even see a vote to repeal Obamacare, you might see something where they call it a repeal but really it's an amendment. You and I have talked about this before. We need an outright repeal of Obamacare and then whatever's gonna come after it, fine, let's have that discussion. But this monstrosity needs to be repealed and right now, in my judgment, we don't have the votes in Congress to pass a repeal bill, in part because of what these people are doing."

No wonder republicans are avoiding town hall meetings. They might have to listen to the will of the people, and that will hamper them from making decisions that oppose that will!

What rubbish, billvon!

It was repealed and replaced "immediately" Trump became president, just like he told us (last Nov. 1) that it would be. He wouldn't make promises he didn't keep.

It's just that the repeal and replace was secret, known only to Trump.

Just like the tax returns he secretly released.

Lame-O, considering it's the GOP that prevented its closing.

>There are ten Democratic Senators up for reelection in 2018 from states that
>Trump won. The base is demanding scorched earth and no compromise. That
>approach may work in California but not so well in Montana.

I think it will work quite well. Trump had the lowest approval ratings in recent history when he started, and they are still dropping. By the next midterms, "I fought Trump with everything I had" is going to appeal to more people than "I rolled over."

After watching President Trump's address last night and observing how the Democrats disgraced themselves with their petulant behavior, I think they had better show willingness to compromise. If not they will looking for a career change come 2018.

The trouble with trump and the speech is that there is never, not ever, NEVER, been a consistent, coherent message.

-NATO
-Immigration
-US leadership
- Washington corruption
-Iran
Above are merely the POLICY changes, flips, flops, walkbacks, in the first 1/3 of his speech. Not reflecting in any fashion the outright lies in the first 1/3.

I expect, and hope, that they will fight him in way the GOP fought President Obama on everything. The midterms will hopefully turn on disillusioned Trump voters who realized they were totally conned.
