This is exactly correct - the information the average person knows becomes worthless very quickly as soon as there's even a scant reason to believe they've been captured. All conduct after capture training I've been party to is exactly as described above.

A person being subjected to any form of torture will tell you whatever it is they think you want to hear - and they'll usually have some basis for an educated guess at what that is. It will rarely be of any value - indeed even if they tell you something that was true, it's likely no longer of value.
