Who's gonna pay for the wall?

I'm just waiting for him to announce construction of a line of Casinos all the way across the border that you can only access from the Mexican side. That way Mexican pay for it by gambling in the casinos.

See, I'd be a better President than Trump.

The losers like us who pay taxes will pay for it. Smart people like Trump won't.

Nah - trump failed at making money from casinos so he won't do that.

General question -

If I can't afford to pay the extra tax for the wall effort....can I get a subsidy to help me pay my share?

Nope. Only dumb people pay taxes, and no subsidies for dumb people, sorry. Unless you have a Trump in your family somewhere - then you get the subsidy. And usually a job too. How does "commissioner of negative tax border reparations" grab you?

Too erudite for the 45th administration.

Would probably go something like, "Bigly Guy Paying Back People to Make America Great Again."

To answer your actual question:

Nobody. That wall will never be built.

It's a logistical and ecological impossibility.

There has never been a real chance that it would ever be built. Anyone with any real understanding of the border (both geographically and politically) knew this.

It was simply a sound bite for Trump to attract the "anti-immigrant" crowd. Or at least the "stupid anti-immigrant" crowd.

Maybe he'll find somebody who thinks the wall is a really bad idea to put in charge of building the wall. That would fit the pattern of all his other appointments.

>According to this site we gave Mexico $209 million in foreign aid in 2012. I'm thinking that will pay for part of it.

Sure, let's cut all the antiterrorism work we are doing there. (Maybe in Canada too!) No way that could bite us in the ass.

Who pays for the other 995 miles. US Taxpayers (a set that excludes the PEOTUS)

You must have missed his tweet about invading south of the border about down to Vercruz. Wall will be a lot cheaper then.:P

Why stop there? Take it all the way to Panama. There's already a moat in place, no wall needed. :P

Perfect solution! And since all the Mexicans will be inside the wall already Trump can still get cheap labour for his hotels and country clubs.

He's the winningest!

That'll build what, maybe 200-300 miles of wall, or 800-1000 miles of fencing topped with concerta wire? Hey, it's a start.

I'm not really a fan of sending millions of dollars in aid to other countries without having a say or accountability in how they spend it. Its OUR tax money. :|

No. Even Trump's wildly over-optimistic estimate said the wall was going to cost 12Bn to build. So best case is that 4 years of foreign aid pays for 7% of the wall, or about 140 miles. And that's building only, not upkeep.

And as noted, some of the aid is for Mexico to do stuff you want them to do so there will be a cost involved in dealing with the consequences of them not doing it anymore, and dealing with consequences is usually a lot more expensive than paying for prevenion.

Perhaps we could hire Mexicans to direct potential border crossers to that 140 miles of wall, where they will be stopped, rather than accidentally cross the border some other place.

(In 2005, the remaining San Diego/Tijuana border fence was budgeted at $10 million a mile, so that's actually $20 billion by a 12 year old estimate.)

The MIT estimate was $38Million/mile.

But what do they know?
