"Dear journalists: Stop taking Trump literally" -- Brad Todd

Recommended Posts

I think there is a larger statement or question here. I understand that - heck 75% or more of the people here hate Trump....he's easy to hate.

But he did - somehow win. What I am curious about is the real HOW.

Certainly many of the people that voted for him held their nose but many DID chose to not take him literally. The press, HRC and all of her supporters did take him literally and figured he was a dead duck. They actually were happy (I bet) to run against him.

But yet they lost.

There seems to be a change, people are so FEED UP with the democratic party - and "normal" politics they elected Trump? They supported Sanders - think about that. Ten years ago would anything like that have happen?

While you guys can all sit around and just bash the shit out of Trump you really aren't getting any closer to understanding WHY he got elected and until we really understand THAT.......well we might elect another one.

BTW the idea that a bunch of dumb uneducated people elected Trump....true or not.....feeds into why all these people voted for him. "The peasants will follow the King anywhere but the King has one rule and only one rule....he can't call the peasants dumb" the press and many of the HRC called the peasants dumb....over and over again.

I'm not sure I can agree with all of this.

In fact, I don't really buy into the "White Working Class" narrative of why Trump got elected. I'll admit it's a popular one and people seem to really want that to be the truth, but I believe if you really look at the numbers you'll see something else at work. I think you'll see a huge generational split and a huge rural vs city split, but "young white working class" and "urban white working class" don't seem to fit the narrative.

I know a hell of a lot of "white working class" individuals who didn't vote for Trump.

I am, by all definitions, smack dab in the middle of the "White Working Class" and I sure as hell didn't.

You may feel that way....but it really does appear from the polling that there was a "white working class vote" that did turn out - BUT you have to believe the polls and ....well they really didn't do to well in the election results!

I'm betting it was more of a slight wave of these kind of voters and a LOT of other voters that didn't turn out that hurt HRC.

The registered Democrat voting was below normal. What this was due to is to be seen.

What really surprised me was 53% of white women didn't vote for HRC. To me that's insanity. I'm not saying they should vote with their genitals, but certainly for their and their daughter's best interests.

Ok this is a great example....and all funny... (divorced wife and all) and I really believe that you DON'T understand....neither do I.

But just blowing them all off as dumb women who aren't smart enough to vote intelligently is silly.

A lot of women, blacks and Latino's voted for Trump - not near as many as voted for HRC I realize but why???

The best answer I have come up with is that although Trump is a nut case people are so feed up with establishment politics they would have voted for a brick rather than Clinton. (popular vote not withstanding)

I can't imagine what it must feel like to have been a fanatical Clinton supporter to lose to Trump.
