Think about this:

SENATE (51 needed for majority)
51 Republican
48 Democrat
1 Independent (Angus King - Maine - caucuses with Democrat)

Just 2 senators switching parties gives the Democrats the effective majority!
With 3 switching, they have the official majority.

The House has a much wider spread:
HOUSE (218 needed for majority)
238 Republican
193 Democrat
4 Independent

Low on the likely tree. Switching from a group with lots of power to one with far less power is not what congresscritters generally do.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Low on the likely tree. Switching from a group with lots of power to one with far less power is not what congresscritters generally do.

So a Republican who recognized that Drumpf is unhinged and said so, has 2 options:

a) Stay, and be screwed over by your own party.

b) Change to a party that will be happy to have you, AND by splitting the House/Senate control, throw a huge wrench into the plans of Drumpf.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.
