New Yorker: Glenn Beck tries out decency

I read a comment from him about a year ago expressing regret for the fear-mongering he did on his show, but this goes further.

There was a stunning "On the Media" interview with Beck by Bob Garfield. I went into listening to the interview with a heavy dose of skepticism, but by the end of it I sort of got what Beck was attempting to do and felt he got treated a bit unfairly by Garfield.

What will be interesting and telling will be to hear what Beck has to say in the next few weeks now that Trump is President-elect.

Will Beck attempt to continue to wake up the Republican party to "classic conservatism," or will he now fold and greet Trump with open arms?

Beck has set himself up to be seen as a disingenuous person either way.

I heard the "On The Media" piece as well, and agree completely.

On the other hand, there is that whole "reap what you sow" thing, but I'd rather we stay a culture of fresh starts. Most of us benefit more from that than payback.

Unfortunately, last night a significant number of people in the US sided with a leader who has repeatedly demonstrated "payback" as an SOP. The biggest fear is it will spread and grow.

Pay back is already spreading and growing.
IRS targeting comes to mind.

That said, the voters sided with a person who will not be bullied by the media or either of the parties.

I watched CBS off an on last night. One of their people stated (after it became apparent Trump was going to win) that the reason Trump won was because he ran against the Dem party, the Rep party, the media, big corporations and big government. She was no Trump supporter but I agree with her assessment.

Trump was not my first choice. And I would have voted for the devil over Hillary. That said, I enjoyed him not bowing to political correctness. Some of you saw that differently than I did but I enjoyed him rattling cages.

He is what we needed and I think he will be good at the job.

And I think we just elected the Riddler. It will be interesting to see how much he can destroy in the next 4 years. I predict:
double digit unemployment
an even worse trade imbalance than already exists
significant increase in the budget deficit
US troops fighting in Syria and Iran
the border with both Mexico and Canada closed or severely restricted
suspension of diplomatic relations with many of our current allies
Russia occupying all of the Ukraine, Georgia, and much or all of the Baltic states
China in control of the entire South China Sea

Also it would not surprise me if we see an effort to impeach him before the 4 years are up, as a result of Trump 1) trying to use the FBI to attack his "enemies" (meaning anyone who disagrees with him), and 2) using the office of President to enrich his businesses.

I'm not sure what damage he might be able to do domestically, I would hope that even a friendly House and Senate will be willing to fight his most extravagant plans (like, millions of new shovel ready taxpayer-funded government jobs - not very Republican, is it?). Internationally though, given Congress's extreme reluctance to impose any sort of checks on the President's military strategies then the erratic, uninformed Trump administration could cause absolute chaos on the world stage - either by charging full bore into multiple new conflicts that could all become the next Iraq, or by presenting no opposition to anything that the Russians want to do, or both.

Or, he might just get bored after a year or so and abdicate, then we can find out what this Pence guy is all about.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Obama is already fighting in more places than Bush.

I hope the borders do get much more restrictive as that is a good thing

There is a ray of hope;
Remember this story?

Think about it; Trump doesn't have an ideology like a typical Republican; He just spews whatever he thinks his current audience wants to hear. If he turns over the reins to Pence, (like GWB did to Cheney), we may effectively have Pence running the show, while Trump does all the PR. Of course meanwhile behind the scenes, he will be using his power to enrich himself and persecute anyone who ever insulted him.

Pence's positions are pretty bad. Maybe worse than Trump, but without the crazy and lack of self control.

Well, we can google Pence's positions because he has experience.

For Trump, all we have is what he says, which has a credibility of 0%.
So we really don't know.

Well, that was one of the most awkward, uncomfortable interviews I've ever heard.:|
