No kidding. What really bugs me is that my country treats the Vatican as though it is a nation and exchanges ambassadors with it. Sort of like having official relations with la cosa nostra. I have a hard time seeing the Catholic Church as a cult. Scientology I can see, but not sure the Catholic Church is in that same realm. Lobbying in your own best interest is nothing new. The Messianic Judaism movement that was prevalent in Judea in the 1st Century - to include the followers of whatshisname - bears precious little resemblance to that which morphed into the 'Christianity' with which we are all familiar. The Wholly Roman Church was established by committee on European principles, and has deeper roots in Pagan infrastructure than in any of the Middle Eastern traditions upon which it is ostensibly dependent.
