Two articles about the same recent study, of wine grape harvesting information going back to the 14th century. The upshot is that there has been variability within certain boundaries (i.e. a heat wave and a drought led to early harvest, otherwise it was generally around the same time) until the 1980's. Now every year follows the "heat wave and a drought" schedule. This is across the swings that happened over those same years. While it's not detailed climate study information, it's data, and it's consistent, and it was not gathered with any sort of agenda.
