nigel99 616 #2 November 20, 2015 I have no solutions to the problem, but I can't help feeling that the west is clueless on the problem. We seem to believe that there are "masterminds" and that removing liberties from us normal people somehow helps. Honestly I think the vast majority of the terrorists are simply unstable extremists who have formed a fucked up view of the world. Sure there are probably people they look up to, but killing or detaining those people is unlikely to dissuade them. I mean Christianity is a whole religion founded on a martyrYes I believe ISIS are taking credit for the whack-jobs. One thing we can do is to remove ALL breaks for religion in the West - no more tax breaks for churches, don't recognize degrees and religious office as a "respectable" career. A hooker is a more respectable trade than peddling beliefs in imaginary friends! Remove the religious freedoms that enable people to make stupid claims, wear silly clothing etc that are unacceptable in other areas of life. I'm not saying people can't believe what they want, but don't pretend belief in a god is different to belief in the easter bunny. Coreeece 2 #3 November 20, 2015 nigel99 I have no solutions to the problem Well that much is obvious - and according to the video, you're part of the problem as well: "If you're just someone firing off misguided missives of hate, you're helping ISIL." nigel99 I can't help feeling that the west is clueless on the problem. Says the guy who apparently thinks Islamic terrorism is somehow related to the church's tax exempt status. nigel99 We seem to believe that there are "masterminds" and that removing liberties from us normal people somehow helps. At the end of your rant you called for the removal of religious freedoms - hypocrite much? nigel99 Honestly I think the vast majority of the terrorists are simply unstable extremists who have formed a fucked up view of the world. Sure there are probably people they look up to, but killing or detaining those people is unlikely to dissuade them. You're probably right. Communist regimes with the assistance of atheistic terrorist organizations like the LMG intimidated and tortured religious folks for years in a desperate attempt to maintain an atheistic state. In the end, 20+ million killed, yet religion still persists - as strong as ever, if not stronger. nigel99 I mean Christianity is a whole religion founded on a martyr wtf does that have to do with Islamic extremists or, excuse me, "Jihadi Terrorist?" (if you prefer politically correct redundancy) nigel99 Remove the religious freedoms that enable people to make stupid claims, wear silly clothing etc that are unacceptable in other areas of life. I'm not saying people can't believe what they want Yes, that's exactly what you're saying.Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour
Kadde 0 #4 November 26, 2015 Even if i in some sense share your opinions about religion there is a little big easier to grasp reason these thing are able to happen. These are people who have pretty much been born and raised in war. Everything in thier life has been circled around it, we can talk about how a soldier cant recover from being out on the field for months or a few years, imagine growing up in it as a kid all the way till you're grown up (if you ever get to grow up) with people close to you dying in war or are just victims of the people fighting the war. Combine that with a bunch of leaders with the mentality of Trump times 10 and you got yourself a army of people who will do anything to retaliate on the people they've been told are responsible for thier situation. The religion is a motivational tool used to gather around, like patriotism without a country.
