Close the border!

the real reason I posted the link to the NPR story was not about government policy at all. It was about how many Canadians are working together to help resettle them.

I don't doubt your intention - it was NPR's comparison that rubbed me the wrong way.

Had they had left it out, I probably would've just questioned if Canada is ready to handle the influx and double their refugee count - which apparently they are not, given their inability to make good on their promises to refugees so far - it all just seems like a bunch of liberal fanfare.

Also, with all the focus on Syria, where does that leave all the others seeking refuge from around the world? With the U.S increasing their refugee quota by a practical 30k this fiscal year, perhaps there is an opportunity to pick up those refugees that may be placed on the back burner.

***Why are you trying to have a dick measuring contest about Syrian refugees??

He is not. Coreece is.

It may seem that way to you, but I don't think that's the case for anyone. NPR is the one that made the meaningless comparison. I'm well aware of the United State's reluctance to haste toward an influx of Syrian refugees - and Canada is well aware that the liberals aren't going to make good on their promise to bring in 10,000 Syrians next week, nor the 25,000 by the end of February - so there's no reason to believe their promise of bringing in 50k by the end of 2016.

If Canada is setting any example for America, it's that we can match their impossible per-capita nonsense and just say to hell with it - were gonna take in 100,000 Syrians by next Thursday and 250,000 refugees by the end of February just to get you people off our back - and then pile on the excuses when it never happens - and then promise to bring in 500,000 by the end of next year, along with more excuses - politics at it's finest.

Speaker's Corner, the only place people argue repeatedly about incorrect information.
Or correct information.
Or neener neener.

Merry Christmas folks, enjoy the holidays.

I don't think Canada is setting an example, nor do I particularly care what the US does with regards to Syrian refugees.

Seems you are the one most upset by any comparison.

Up until now, Canada had been all talk - so there was no reason no believe this was anything other than a photo opp.

However, in the last two week they've brought in about 5000 more refugees - which is pretty remarkable given the Holiday/New Year. At the current rate, they just might make their 25K goal by the end of February, if they don't start to bottleneck. Last week they were pushing 400/day - this week they seem to be down to around 350/day.

*Cliche Warning*
Let's just hope there are no bad apples in the bunch - Haste makes waste. If French blood is good and American blood is best, then I'm guessing that French-Canadian blood is somewhere in the middle.

There is no real good solution to the crisis. My first thought would be to pool up a bunch of international money, buy an island in the Med, and say 'Best of luck. Here's a few hundred million in pocket money to get you started.

We already have UNHCR - and the US has already given almost 4 billion...

Once on the Island, it'd be wise to start a civil war and kill off half the population...take the money - Capitalism.

Over ten years in foreign intervention in the Middle East. less then three to get into the mess we have now, and probably another three before we all have to go back and start over.

What a mess.

Well, I'd take a biblical approach - Save those that want to be saved and then to hell with the rest - incinerate the whole fucking lot of them.

The world could come together and say that we're just sick n' fucking tired of southwest Asia and all their Judaeo-Islamic bullshit. If you want to join the 21st century, then great - we'll find a home for you.

However, on September 11, 2016 - the rest of the civilized world will drop every last WMD into the ass-hole of planet earth known as the middle-east. Shalom, Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatu Allah - fuck off, good bye, good riddance to the last of the religious fuck-nut morons and your God-damned promised land.
