Whatever happened to the old method of setting up surveillance cameras to catch a thief?:S

The thieves steal the camera.

There was a case in western Wisconsin a few years back. A guy from the Minneapolis/St Paul area had a cabin in WI. It kept getting broken into.
So he rigged a shotgun. Aimed low enough to not kill, just injure.

The burglar got a serious surprise. When a cop found him limping down the road, the burglar didn't want to tell the cop what happened. So the cop followed the blood trail in the snow back to the cabin. Owner faced a variety of charges. Did most of a year in jail for it.

Something like that, depends on how you define "camp". Around here we call it a "cottage."

IIRC, there was an ATV that had been damaged a few times by the thief trying to hotwire it.

I found this on a research site, you have to sign up (and pay) to read the whole text. Guy got 6 months. Burglar got 5 years (different page on the same site).

I'm not a fan of setting lethal booby traps. They guy was totally in the wrong for doing that. Even "aimed low" a gun is lethal force.

But I can sympathize with why he did it.

Yeah there are better ways to discourage burglars/thieves... just depends on how much money you're willing to spend to protect your property legally.

Since it's a cottage in the woods, probably the best option is to not leave anything worth stealing there, I guess.
