Actually, no. He brought it up to underscore how tough things are for him.

How tough things CAN get when it gets stupid busy. Hours and hours of mundane tasks interrupted by moments of stress and suffering.

Meh, he is getting paid for it and chose the job himself. I am sick and tired of this glorification of police and soldiers. You knew what the job was when you signed up.

My favorite answer from police critics. This answer comes when they don't want to acknowledge just how incredibly difficult police work can be. The people who use this argument would never have the temperament or fortitude to do the job of a cop.

Speaking of getting paid, I've managed to work out a pretty decent living doing this. My extended family are all college educated professionals, my living is on par with most of them. It's been a tortoise and the hare thing, I kept chugging along, now I do pretty decent.

I was able to have a pretty successful military career as well. When I turn 60 I should be set, never rich, but certainly not poor.

Don't worry, you got your tax dollars worth.

Just highlighting that his employer is breaking regulations and if he had a problem with it, he has avenues open to him.

Did I ever complain about my employer? This was your leap to answer a situation you don't understand or could never handle. I did not have a mask to fit an infant, I did what I had to do, I'd do it again.

I have to admit, I've experienced more support for LEO's the last 6 months or so, since after 9/11. These are people from all walks of life and races.

I've had my meals picked up on several occasions, people coming up and thanking me for what we do, and expressing support during difficult times.

The only detractors who threw up the rash of media fueled incidents were people with warrants and one that was harboring a fugitive. Go figure :S Speaks volumes doesn't it...............

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to set up some evil military surplus equipment to light a school fundraiser/festival. The "militarization" saved the school some money renting equipment, although the generator/light towers are still painted that scary green...................

For interesting historical context, see:

OK...I read the Atlantic article. It does not rise to the occasion.

Now for starters, I don't know if Ms. Tatyana Rhodes, the party organizer had individual privileges to use the pool privately owned and operated by the HOA. She did not put up a $175 refundable security deposit or pay a $50 rental use fee specified in the HOA rules for using the pool for a private event. Further, the language does not exclude ANYONE from using the pool as long as they are a resident of the community and abide by the established rules. Would the use been approved? Don't know; but she started out ignoring making the request, filling out the application and paying the fees.

Ms Rhodes was engaging in a commercial enterprise selling tickets at the pool for a future event while organizing a free party at a pool she had no approval to use in the first place.
This happens to be her "business" called "Twinzzpromotions." Hmmm...does she have a business license? Has she filed and paid taxes for the revenue she's realized from her business?

So, disregard for the rules by one person turns into a melee with large overtones of race injected, a police officer is judged to have over reacted and loses his career...all because a young lady thought the rules did not apply to her.

We are becoming our own sad satire in individual one act plays.

Ohio Cop Trying To Shoot Dog Shoots 4-Year-Old Girl Instead
Simon McCormack

A police officer in Whitehall, Ohio, accidentally shot and wounded a 4-year-old girl Friday while attempting to shoot her family's dog instead.

Columbus, Ohio, police Officer Jonathan Thomas was investigating a hit-and-run in Whitehall on Friday when a woman came up to him asking for help, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

The woman told Thomas that her sister -- later identified as Andrea Ellis -- had cut herself and needed medical attention.

When Thomas arrived at the doorway of the residence, one of the family dogs ran at him, according to Columbus police spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis. Thomas pulled out his gun and fired, inadvertently hitting the young girl in the leg. The 4-year-old, who is reportedly Ellis' daughter, is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

Gary Parsley, who said he was the hit-and-run victim Thomas was speaking with shortly before the shooting, told WBNS that the officer had other options besides firing at the dog.

"[Thomas] was a big guy and they have Tasers and clubs and stuff,” Parsley said. “I don’t know why you would raise a gun. I really don’t agree with him just pulling his gun out and trying to shoot the dog.”

Authorities questioned Thomas after the shooting, WBNS reports. It's unclear if he will be disciplined.

Police opening fire on dogs is surprisingly common, to the point where in 2011 the Justice Department released a report on cop-canine encounters that, in the words of Time's Charlotte Alter and Justin Worland, "included advice on how to handle dogs without killing them."
