What's in their water is a celibacy requirement that's proven time and again to attract a high proportion of social misfits and psychological oddballs. It's the 900 pound gorilla in their room, and until they acknowledge and get a grip on that, this shit will continue to happen.

I don't think it attracts those types of people it's just the simple fact that you can't bottle Mother Nature up, people have needs and if you try to not let it take course it will mess up their head. People gotta fuck plain and simple. Look at what happens in prison.

It seems to me that the celibacy requirement (among other things) would be more of a deterrent than an attraction. It weeds out the "normal people" thus leaving a healthy pool of social misfits that simply don't have a problem with the idea of celibacy. Same difference, maybe?

If celibacy did play a direct role in this type of abuse, I would suspect that it was due to how a celibate lifestyle may effect the behavior of these types of "psychological oddballs."

Also, the statement I mentioned earlier seemed a bit peculiar:
"BD," woke up during the flight to find the priest’s "hands on her breast, groin, and buttocks."

Now I'm not saying she made the story up, but it did make me a bit curious to see what the evidence was against him.

Could he have been convicted solely on her word alone?

I'm seeing some encouraging signs the church's misfits are becoming more mainstream:
1. The victim was apparently and adult, (as opposed to a child).
2. The victim was the opposite sex.

I think it does. I went to a religious high school, and to join their order you either had to be dedicated to teaching and the Church or crazy and dedicated to the Church. Usually they did a good job of keeping the crazies away from the students - but not always.
