Here is the Ice Shelf hold back the glaciers that are on land.....Card. Its called gravity ... some of us like to play with gravity.. others don't deal with it well.

The massive shelves of ice that ring Antarctica have been shrinking over the past couple of decades, and that could have grave implications for sea level rise.

It’s not the ice shelves themselves that pose a problem: they’re mostly afloat, so when they melt or dump massive icebergs, it doesn’t affect water levels any more than melting ice cubes make your drink rise and overflow.

But the ice shelves serve as massive barriers that slow the flow of glaciers out to sea. As the shelves shrink, the barrier weakens, allowing glaciers to start moving faster. And since that ice is land-based, it adds to sea level rise.

So. I never really liked south beach or LA.

Think of all the dive site opportunities.. including my mothers house.. one block from the Atlantic Ocean at 5 feet above sea level... for now

Well, apparently people should have seen this coming and not built on land that is going to be in jeapordy.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

THe problem is the ongoing construction there are a lot of very wealthy dudes STILL selling people homes built in areas that WILL be taken out the next decent "cane" to wash over the barrier Islands or in low lying areas even in swampy lands inland off the Intercoastal waterway.. as well as the rebuilding of fancy beach homes after storms wash the old ones away on all of the Outer Banks.... over and over. This goes on in communities all along the coast....but hey as long as some can get very rich who cares about what happens a few years down the road... kind of like taxpayers paying over and over to replace towns swept away in Tornado Alley.... It is a crapshoot...... you are betting on the odds... but sometimes.... the roll of the dice is not in your favor if you ignore natures ability to wipe you out.
Is there not some biblical thing about building on sand????

This is America. People will do what they want and then demand that someone else fix their mistakes. The left wingers will want the government to pay for it, the right wingers will blame Al Gore and then sue Obama, and the libertarians will start a Kickstarter campaign to "rebuild our tragically destroyed homes."

Yes, but it wasn't a lesson on architecture or global warming...

Hey we are talkin Bible Belt... Everything must be seen thru that filter.most of the Bible Belt won't be affected by it, unless you consider all the idiots that bought beach front property invading their space.

I Venture a guess that most owners of prime beachfront property are not very left wing yet still want federal funds when their property is destroyed by nature.
...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
