Patriotism and Fox News

I don't want to belabor a conversation that lacks common sense on one side but, packing a large flag on the ground to be used in a patriotic exhibition is way different than throwing a flag on the ground and walking on it.

Well, at least it's nice of you to admit that your side of the argument lacks common sense. :P

You are right that there is a difference.

One side is deliberately making a statement by desecrating the flag. Like it or hate it, it's an exercise in free speech.

The other side is a group of people who claim to "love" the flag, do a demo jump that is supposed to be "patriotic", and then go and hide because they are unwilling or unable to take necessary steps to treat the flag properly.

At least the first group is honest about their actions.

When you contract to perform multiple performances for an airshow, it is logistically impractical to carry a 1250 sqft table or tarpaulin with you. It is also cost prohibitive.

Right. That's what the "cannot" part of my post implied.

I've ground crewed demos that involved smaller flags. We made every practical effort to treat the flag properly, but it did end up touching the ground on landing. There was no way to prevent it without endangering the jumper. A piece of cloth isn't worth risking injury over.

But I'm not the one saying out of one side of my mouth that I couldn't restrain myself if I saw someone treating the flag with disrespect, while saying out of the other side of my mouth that I went and hid because I was laying the flag on the ground to pack it, after doing a patriotic demo jump.

If you can't see the difference then you can't see the difference.

And if you can't see the hypocrisy then you can't see the hypocrisy.

***Because your statement was hypocritical. Once again, you state that something is disrespectful - but it's OK when you do it because it's hard to do it right.

You only see hypocrisy because you deliberately refuse to recognize the difference. The only person you're fooling is normiss, apparently.

Nope. Not me.
I see the hypocrisy clearly.
You're just not familiar with that ability.
It must hurt your brain sometimes to struggle with that.

Ok, help me out then...

How is the level of disrespect shown in stomping a 6 sq.ft American flag on the ground in protest the same thing as the level of disrespect shown in packing a 1000 sq. ft American flag on the ground after a patriotic display?
