I agree. There should be an age cut-off to shovel snow. Once that age is reached, mandatory health physicals to see if they are bodily able to shovel safely. If not, shovels will be confiscated and a national database set up with their names in the system to prevent them from buying another shovel.

This is probably what will kill me. Probably not this year, perhaps not next year as well since I am in decent shape. But as a middle aged person who lives where snow is a common occurrence and someone who owns a somewhat large two car garage driveway that needs to be cleared of the slippery, icy and sometimes very heavy white stuff ... one day I may just have a heart attack while outside shoveling. Then again I'd much rather go thanks to a heart attack than to rot away with cancer.

PS: perhaps it's time we introduced a continent wide snow shovel registry? After all if it saves just one person, then the billions and billions of dollars we poured into it to create an army of unionized government workers is all worth it right. After all who cares how we are going to pay for it. Let the tax payer worry about that. The only thing that matters is that we know where every snow shovel is at all times.

On second thought... FUCK snow shovels. Get a heat fan, or better yet, a flame thrower! B| Just melt all the white shit away, as long as your vehicles aren't parked there, you're good to go.

No what we need are solar powered heaters embedded into our driveways and walkways. Solar powered heaters so powerful that the moisture of the falling snow instantly evaporates on contact with the driveway. Wait a second, solar panels don't work when they themselves are covered with snow. I guess we will just need to shovel our solar panels. See we do need the Snow Shovel Registry and if it saves one person it will all be worth it.

Heat cables or a blanket laid out before the storm hits, and plugged into a power outlet in the garage. They already have them for tile floor bathrooms, why not a driveway?

I don't know how plausible this is, but on a small scale, I could see it working, especially for driveways.

Have a recirculating pump attached to a water heater, or a geo thermal water system, and pipe those through under the driveway.

I'm thankful that you are looking out for me and other old geezers in Chicago. My driveway is 250' long and goes uphill (but only in one direction).

However, I have a snowblower.:)

Is it registered? Do you have a mental health certificate that shows you are competent to own and operate one?

And you are welcome. I love you John.

The registry is fine but we also need to remove the unnecessary legal barriers to obtaining the cholesterol level and blood pressure of everyone who owns a snow shovel. How else would we know if they're going to have a heart attack?

We should be entitled to be able to publish their names and addresses on line and in the newspapers. That way the public is aware of just who around you may shovel at any given moment.

Just wondering, do you live in Chicago? I did for a long time, but I moved out because I got tired of the congestion and the noise.

Oh...he lives on the south side. Bad part of town.

If you are really interested (instead of just scoring points) here is a map showing recent shootings. The west side is actually the worst.

Officially, I have never and if I have anything to say about it, will never live in Chicago.
Why do you think I live in the south side?

I'm a Texas boy.:)

Texas IS the south side, and it's certainly the bad side.

They can. Heated driveways for ramps into parking garages are pretty common here.

Residential applications are not overly common. Mostly just too expensive to operate. Cheaper to hire somebody to do it for you.

Again, just wondering, then why do you give a sh!t about some obscure Chicago snow shoveling regulation?
