My week spent living in the future...

blah blah blah according to high ranking liberals blah blah blah....

This is a strange post.
Are you upset that the market has forced prices up? Or that the companies look after their employees with the free transport etc?

I was sitting in the SFO airport yesterday reading my newspaper. I can't find the article but the numbers were upsetting. Of the $314 billion dollars in government subsidies last year the top 1% got more than the bottom 80% combined.

I spent a week living amongst over privileged douchebags. I know you don't see it. Possibly because you're already in the forest. I'm concerned that the people who reap the benefits of what is going on in these areas don't fully appreciate the opportunities given to them. They think they are solely responsible for their success. I can remember when BHO said basically the same thing and I thought it was bullshit. Now I'm not so sure. People who work in Silicon Valley at these firms don't need free transportation. People who can buy $100K Teslas don't need a tax break. We don't need cars that drive themselves. Elysium is already here.

Hang the fuck on. The rest of your post I more or less agree with, but this one I have to say "no, we don't NEED them, but I really, really really really really want them and life will be way better with them"

Yup. Why have to pay attention and stay awake when you can enjoy your trip resting/sleeping or entertaining yourself? Yes, it can be fun to drive....and frequently NOT so!

Sounds like class envy. Why do you hate people just because they got an education that leads to a well paying career?

It's great that you are thinking about these issues instead of just assuming anything BHO says must be wrong.

Is anyone forcing you to pay for their transportation? I though Google was doing that. Do private companies have to run their ideas about how to spend their money past you for approval? Why do you care if Google pays for buses? Sounds like envy again.

My great-grandfather could not understand why people wanted cars they could drive, either. Perhaps that was related to his business, which was selling hay so people could feed their horses. Why do you feel qualified to judge what products businesses decide to invest in?

If you mean you don't need a self-driving car, I feel the same way. For now. My next door neighbor, who is in her 80s, just had to give up her license, and it has really screwed up her life. To go buy food, or go to the doctor, or get her hair done, she has to prevail on a friend to drive her. Quite often these days "friend" means my wife, when she isn't at work. Either that, or cough up $20ish each way for a taxi. A self-driving car would go a long way to restoring her independence. I hate to think about it, but when I get to the age when it's not safe for me to be behind the wheel I'd love to have a self-driving car.

I work with a guy who is legally blind (he can still see well enough to use a computer though.) A self driving car would be a godsend to him.

I don't know enough to say they are over privileged douchebags. And I don't know enough about Clinton and BHO to say they aren't. I only know what I see and I'm not ready to turn in my Conservative Membership Card just yet.

We went to this place within view of Stanford one evening...

http://gotts.com/

$33 for 2 burgers, 2 orders of fries and 2 drinks is over privileged douchebaggery. I guess it's no big deal for the kids at Stanford.

I believe that we each should buy what we want. I would assume you did look at the menu before purchasing. You could have gotten up and walked away, I've done that in the past.

I looked their menu and their base burger is $7, not bad for a decent burger IMO.

There is always Mickey D's for those who want to save some money. NOT!!!!

So let's compare that to a common family restaurant. I looked up the menu at the Red Robin's in Canton, OH, which I gather is in your general region of Ohio. Sorry, the link won't copy, but you can look it up for yourself. Anyhow, the prices for various burgers & stuff at the Canton RR are more or less in line with those at Gott's. You really need to quitcher bitchin'. Comrade.

Exactly what I found.

Then why do you post as if you're surprised?

Next time try In-and-Out Burger. Fantastic burgers, and you will find their prices far less douchebaggy.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

That statement makes no sense. Some restaurants are more expensive than others. Why is that a bad thing?

I've eaten at Gotts once while on vacation in Napa and had the best fish sandwich of my life. I still think about it years later. I would probably pay $20 for one. Does that make me a douchebag?

$33 for that is about the same that I would spend going out to TGI Fridays for the same items anywhere across the country.

I've spent a few weeks in the bay area and while real estate prices are sky high the rest of the commodities and dining are about the same price as anywhere else. I've had similar meals that cost the same in Vegas, SV, NYC, Orlando, Portland, Dallas and Chicago. Big cities tend to have slightly higher prices than when I've had similar meals in Temple TX, Hartford, CT or Rittman Ohio. Hell the tunnel time at SFBay is cheaper than it is in any of their Texas locations.

I'm waiting for the part of the conversations where someone remembers when Coke was 25 cents and a burger was a dollar. ;)

***You aren't making any sense. At all.

I know. I'm having trouble expressing myself.

If you don't like their lifestyle - thats fine, don't go there. But they are entirely free to spend their money in whatever restaurant they choose - doesn't make them over-privileged, or douchebags. It just makes them successful and well-off. (Not even that well off - not THAT many of the employees of those big tech firms actually qualify for 1% status.) They are all probably paying quite a lot of tax on their money as well - CA has pretty high tax rates doesn't it?

If I were you I'd maybe be having a go at people living comfortably on welfare, I don't know - in the hills of Georgia for example.
