A lot of illegals use the fact that they faithfully paid taxes for years to help gain legal status. http://www.businessinsider.com/how-illegal-immigrants-pay-taxes-2012-3"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." billvon 3,112 #7 March 4, 2015 >How do you legally pay taxes as an illegal alien with no ss number? By withholding. Then the money is sent to the IRS, which puts it in a suspense account (holds onto it until they can match payer to tax.) If no one matches they eventually use it as regular tax income. By using an ITIN number, which is the equivalent of a SS number for aliens (legal or illegal.) They are free to get, and millions do get them, but do not entitle the holder to benefits like EITC or SS.

Andy9o8 2 #9 March 4, 2015 AnvilbrotherHow do you legally pay taxes as an illegal alien with no ss number? Well, they pay the same taxes on typical consumer goods and services that most everybody else does. No, it's unlikely they pay income taxes on their pay for picking the produce on your plate, for which they almost certainly get paid below minimum wage. And if you're worried about how much in tax revenue goes uncollected for that, compare it to the fact that most of the income earned by the wealthiest people in the US is taxed not as ordinary income (like yours or mine), but at the bargain-basement 15% rate for capital gains. How much is lost by not taxing that shit as ordinary income? Look at the big picture.

To be eligible for deferral of deportation you may NOT have been convicted of a felony (which both stealing a SS number and tax cheating are). Also not every illegal alien is eligible anyway. For the rest, there are only four ways to legally immigrate to the US: 1. You can be sponsored by an immediate family member who is a US citizen. 2. You can be sponsored by an employer, provided they prove you have skills they have searched for and were unable to find within the US, and provided they are willing to pay a lot in USCIS fees. 3. You can buy your way in by investing $1 million dollars in an approved business. 4. You can self-sponsor (no family or employer sponsor) only if you can prove you have exceptional skills in the sciences, arts, or athletics, such that it is clearly in the national interest to have you here. I might note that a small number of green cards are awarded by the lottery system, but citizens of Mexico and the majority of other Latin American countries (as well as Canada, most European countries, China, India, and a bunch of other countries) are excluded entirely from the green card lottery. Most people enter under #1, and somewhat lesser but still significant numbers under #2. Only a few have $1,000,000 in loose change to invest (#3), and #4 only includes people like athletes who we want to have on our Olympic teams, and people of that caliber of skill in a handful of fields. For those who do have an immediate family member who is a US citizen, or do not have technical skills attractive enough to entice an employer to deal with seemingly endless paperwork and thousands of dollars in fees, there is essentially no way to come here legally. Don After putting up with a very similar system with a tremendous amount of institutional bias while I lived and worked in Australia for 8 years, I am exceedingly sympathetic to those who try to move to the US. It's a fucking nightmare. To a certain extent I'm glad I couldn't get permanent residency since it finally gave me the impetus to move back to the US which has dramatically increased my quality of life and overall happiness, but I'm no less understanding of the struggles of those who try to emigrate to any country.cavete terrae. From my experience, Australia and New Zealand are pretty easy to get into as long as you have a) A useful skill on the skilled migrant list. b) a Decent level of education c) the hygiene factors - not too old, in good health, english speaking. If you don't have those three things - you probably don't have the right to be here.
