Is Oklahoma destined to be the new Mississippi?

Excellent! Sanity prevails, and Oklahoma avoids a Mississipian fate.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

One of my brothers married a Brazilian woman in the late 80's; they moved to Oklahoma (Muskogee, outside Tulsa) right after. It was not the most culturally-enriching time of their lives :P.
Last year when I was at their house, my husband asked their son if he was born in Texas or Oklahoma. His answer? "Mom would never have allowed me to be born in Oklahoma!

Somebody didn't do their homework. How much culture was he looking for in a town of 40 square miles and 40,000 people? The best thing about Muskogee is the VA Hospital.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

They have an azalea festival, and the museum at Bacone College, too. Actually, it was my dad who moved to Muskogee now that I remember, to teach as a volunteer at Bacone. My brother and his wife lived in Broken Arrow; it was close to his work. Two words summed up her thoughts: mall hair :ph34r:

OK that's two days of sumpin to do. :D

Now, if your brother lives in BA; I lived there for many years. It's ten minutes from Tulsa and a serious number of cultural events take place each year. From sports to jazz festivals, to country music, to Rock Stars, to three performing art centers, to the ballet, to charity functions, to drag racing, to dinner theater, to the garden society, to... well, there's something, many things for everyone. There's more than just the mall; which I haven't been to in years... it's where the bubble gummers go to show off their new phones and clothes and be the cool kids. :D

Heck, this is a list of just what the city puts on... not the private events also: https://www.cityoftulsa.org/our-city/special-events/upcoming-events.aspx

How can you argue with that?

Yeah, pretty conclusive, eh?

The last time Chief Justice Roy Moore misbehaved like that, in 2003, he was removed from office by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary. No doubt he learned from that experience to protect his tactical position. So, this time he's insulated himself by getting 6 of the Court's 9 justices to do his bidding for him, and recusing himself from the decision. Smart move. Now let's see of the federal courts have the stones to try to hold the Alabama Supreme Court in contempt of (federal) court.

I particularly liked these parts:

"The Alabama court ruled the state's ban on gay marriage isn't discriminatory because it bans both men and women from marrying people of the same sex . . ."

Just like the old interracial marriage laws. They weren't discriminatory; they allowed black people to marry black people and white people to marry white people.

"and it said the law has a rational basis because it is meant to recognize and encourage ties "between children and their biological parents."

And yet divorce, adoption and custody challenges - still legal.
