So far all you have is (a few studies) saying there is a 97% consensus. Then supposedly a few studies that claim that number isn't correct. What you are doing is not believing certain studies, because you believe other studies. (If you cannot see the irony in this.....) So, can you explain in your words, why this number is bullshit? billvon 3,120 #20 February 17, 2015 Some good news on the climate change front. Even republicans are starting to give up on denial. From your favorite news source, Newsmax: =========== With Eye on 2016, Rand Paul Takes Bipartisan Approach Monday, 16 Feb 2015 09:51 AM By Jennifer G. Hickey . . . Paul believes that his embrace of constituencies outside of the traditional GOP primary voting bloc is what is needed to win the presidency. "I don't think we will get there [to a Republican winning the presidency] if we nominate the same old, same old," Paul said recently in an interview on "Kennedy," the Fox Business Network's new program. "There is abundant evidence that carbon is increasing and has been increasing since the industrial age. All I ask for is that the solution has to be a balanced solution and you have to account for jobs and jobs lost by regulation. "And I am not against regulation; I think the environment has been cleaned up dramatically through regulations on emissions as well as clean water over the last 40 to 50 years. But I don't want to shut down all forms of energy so that thousands and thousands of people lose jobs," he told Maher. More recently, Paul was one of 15 Republican senators to vote in favor of an amendment, offered during the January debate on legislation to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, acknowledging that humans have some impact on climate change. ================ From the NYT: Most Republicans Say They Back Climate Action, Poll Finds By CORAL DAVENPORT and MARJORIE CONNELLY JAN. 30, 2015 WASHINGTON — An overwhelming majority of the American public, including half of Republicans, support government action to curb global warming, according to a poll conducted by The New York Times, Stanford University and the nonpartisan environmental research group Resources for the Future. In a finding that could have implications for the 2016 presidential campaign, the poll also found that two-thirds of Americans said they were more likely to vote for political candidates who campaign on fighting climate change. They were less likely to vote for candidates who questioned or denied the science that determined that humans caused global warming. Among Republicans, 48 percent say they are more likely to vote for a candidate who supports fighting climate change, a result that Jon A. Krosnick, a professor of political science at Stanford University and an author of the survey, called “the most powerful finding” in the poll. Many Republican candidates question the science of climate change or do not publicly address the issue. This nationwide survey asked people for their views on whether global warming will be beneficial or detrimental, about how the president and Congress have responded to it, and what they believe government should do about it. Nonetheless, 47 percent of Republicans still said they believed that policies designed to curb global warming would hurt the economy. Although the poll found that climate change was not a top issue in determining a person’s vote, a candidate’s position on climate change influences how a person will vote. For example, 67 percent of respondents, including 48 percent of Republicans and 72 percent of independents, said they were less likely to vote for a candidate who said that human-caused climate change is a hoax. The results came as climate change was emerging as a source of debate in the coming presidential campaign. In 2012, all the Republican presidential candidates but one — Jon M. Huntsman Jr. — questioned or denied the science that determined that humans caused global warming, and opposed policies to curb greenhouse gas emissions. But over the past year, President Obama has proposed a series of Environmental Protection Agency regulations intended to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants, which Republicans in Congress have attacked as a “war on coal.” But those positions appear to be out of step with the majority of the electorate. The poll found that 83 percent of Americans, including 61 percent of Republicans and 86 percent of independents, say that if nothing is done to reduce emissions, global warming will be a very or somewhat serious problem in the future.. . . Over all, the number of Americans who believe that climate change is caused by human activity is growing. In a 2011 Stanford University poll, 72 percent of people thought climate change was caused at least in part by human activities. That grew to 81 percent in the latest poll. By party, 88 percent of Democrats, 83 percent of independents and 71 percent of Republicans said that climate change was caused at least in part by human activities. =======================
