lawrocket 3 #1 February 11, 2015 http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/02/10/new-dietary-cholesterol-advice/23174871/ From the article: "It's the right decision," said Steven Nissen, chairman of cardiovascular medicine at the famed Cleveland Clinic. "We got the dietary guidelines wrong. They've been wrong for decades." See this article: http://www.nytimes.com/1984/05/16/us/diet-to-prevent-heart-attacks-aims-to-cut-blood-fat-levels.html From the 1984 article: "The new recommendations, which represent a consensus of physicians and scientists of the American Heart Association, are published in this month's issue of the association's journal, Circulation." For all this time, policy has been put out there that had what people thought was a solid scientific and medical reason. Turns out it didn't. Again, not saying that there wasn't reason, but a consensus developed and went on for decades not because of the strength of the evidence but because of the strength of the consensus. We are not told that scientific consensus is that PV=nRT. We are not told that most scientists agree that e=mc^2. We are told that they are what they are. They've been measured so much and so well that trying to establish a consensus isn't necessary. Nice to see that some people are getting back to actual science. Reexamining previous beliefs that had a tenuous factual basis. Consensus is usually correct. But we see now an example of the perils of consensus. Consensus is what is argued when the evidence is refutable. My wife is hotter than your wife.

rushmc 23 #5 February 11, 2015 I also just read that the Big Bang theory is now being questioned Quote“The Big Bang singularity is the most serious problem of general relativity because the laws of physics appear to break down there,” Ahmed Farag Ali at Benha University and the Zewail City of Science and Technology, both in Egypt, told Phys.org."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Now? That's been known about for decades and is hardly a secret. Quantum mechanics and general relativity are inconsistent for the first nano-nano-nano-nanosecond or so of the universe's existence. After that, BIG BANG.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Now? That's been known about for decades and is hardly a secret. Quantum mechanics and general relativity are inconsistent for the first nano-nano-nano-nanosecond or so of the universe's existence. After that, BIG BANG. Kallend has got this right. These fellas are working on a theory to unify relativity and quantum mechanics. Relativity works with really big stuff but fails with small stuff. Quantum works with small stuff but not with big stuff. Something that works on the large and small is the holy grail of physics and cosmology. These guys, as far as I know, aren't questioning the Big Bang, so to speak. But are simply questioning the existence of a singularity in the beginning, since thr physics and maybe break down at that point. It's like Newton. He had no idea what Gravity was and didn't try to explain it because his equations worked. Relativity works. Quantum works. Finding out why they work is the big step. The big news is not the question. It's that these guys are making progress toward a solution. My wife is hotter than your wife.
DrewEckhardt 0 #8 February 11, 2015 lawrockethttp://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/02/10/new-dietary-cholesterol-advice/23174871/ LDL cholesterol problems come from fatty livers which go with being super-sized. When I lost 15 pounds My LDL cholesterol dropped from 166 to 130, total from 244 to 185, and triglicerides 68 to 40. I didn't change what I ate - I just stopped eating more than I needed to avoid hunger and exercised more. It'll be interesting to see what the following 40 did. ( The rest of my weight loss plan is 10 hours of cardio each week; everybody else seems to loose interest once they hear that )

rushmc 23 #10 February 11, 2015 Yes But it is different than kallends point Quote(Phys.org) —The universe may have existed forever, according to a new model that applies quantum correction terms to complement Einstein’s theory of general relativity. The model may also account for dark matter and dark energy, resolving multiple problems at once."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Agreed As it may have existed for only 13.8 billion years I was interested in how they are looking at this differently to try and be able to have thier ideas figure in the dark matter and energy Always exploring good stuff"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." kallend 2,175 #15 February 12, 2015 rushmc Nope just a bit different than what you thought was going on I suspect that I may possibly understand quantum physics and general relativity just a little bit better than you do. You are doing your usual trick of posting a link to something that you clearly didn't read with any comprehension.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
