Your hardware store utility/pocket knife may be illegal

Recommended Posts

Seems like I recently read that some officers in some departments were checking by holding the knife by the blade and flicking the handle, which is generally heavier. That's a bit shady. But it is what it is-last year I told a group I was riding with "Do what you have to do but when we hit Chicago I'm not stopping for anything. I'm at least 6 different kinds of illegal there and they are going to have to catch me."

I'm concerned about my growing collection of Kershaw assisted opening knives.
Hopefully, the Florida supreme court decision that folding knives 4" and under are pocket knives, not weapons, will stand up for us.

Kershaw are nice.

My favourite for doing everything round my property and when I hunt is my Opinel. Very simple, very light, very cheap, VERY sharp!

A true 'Gravity Knife' is the type carried by paratroopers. Point it down, push the catch, and the blade slides out. It can be operated with one hand to cut yourself out of a tree.

That's why I always carry one on the International Space Station - no matter what, they're always legal!

The current NYC thing is a perversion of the original intent of the statute and it disgusting what the cops are doing with it. One more good reason to move the hell out of NY state.

I assure you, cops everywhere do one form or another of this style of opportunistic chickenshit to jack people up. It's just a matter of method and opportunity. If you're going to move away from it, you'd have to move to, say, Belize. I'm not even sure where Belize is, but you'd have to move there.
