Here's a better article that goes on to explain... QuoteOfficers said they later recovered Hoyt's SKS assault rifle at his mother’s home in Hebron, Ky. She told investigators she removed it from his home while he wasn’t there because she noticed he was not eating or sleeping and becoming increasingly agitated, Desrosiers said. This is a good example of what I'm talking about when I say there's no perfect amount of crazy where taking a person's firearms and calling it a day is the appropriate response. And how do you propose keeping guns away from people "pre diagnosis"?
Anvilbrother 0 #10 January 14, 2015 QuoteThen you must really be against the NRA and their non flexible stance against mandatory background checks. I agree along with most of my other Americans that universal background checks are a good thing to keep guns out of the hands of felons, mentally ill, etc. I dont know what caused this change, but the non flexible stance you describe was not always the narritive of the NRA. QuoteAmericans indicated that they support universal background checks by a margin of 91% to 8%. Even in households with guns, the margin was an overwhelming 88% to 11%. "We think it's reasonable to provide mandatory instant criminal background checks for every sale at every gun show. No loopholes anywhere for anyone." Did President Barack Obama say that? No, that's from an advertisement taken out by the NRA in USA Today in 1999. But a more powerful NRA today is in no mood to follow the slogan of their "be reasonable" ad campaign of 14 years ago. This relatively small group -- the NRA boasts that it has 4.5 million members, which is peanuts compared to the roughly 40 million AARP members -- might have the political power to pull it off. http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/10/opinion/donohue-background-checks/ I see a proper and honest need in keeping records of those that have weapons for cases such as this bartender. What I think is most gun owners fear and why they are slow to stand up for background checks and records is Americans agreeing to have this for the good cause, but the government turn around and use it against us for bad such as gun confiscations due to type of weapon and its accessories. I will use the argument of government surveillance. Pass it now and fund us billions because we can use it for good to catch criminals, terrorists, and make us safer, then later down the road turn it against you to harass, spy, and falsely arrest people. We all know given power the government will and can abuse it. You know just typing that out has made me rethink my stance on surveillance. Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. Andy9o8 2 #11 January 15, 2015 And now another scary guy from Ohio: Ohio man accused in Capitol terror plot What is it with these people from Ohio? Hey, here's an interesting bit of trivia: of the 8 Presidents from Ohio, 4 died in office, 2 of them from gunfire. Never trust anyone from Ohio. Except astronauts. Then again, Jim Lovell almost got killed in Apollo 13, and Judy Resnick was killed in the Challenger accident. The message is clear: Ohio is cursed.
