isis twitter handles nsfw picture-gruesome

Recommended Posts

i was surfing pastebin last night, and i found some truly disturbing shit. it was an untitled post, but when i clicked the link, it was a list of twitter handles. i checked one out, and it was a muslim (i could tell from the picture of a woman in a bhurka and the arabic script) with a profile that said private. so i checked some of the others. the third one was called isis911 or something, so i looked at it, and it wasn't private, so i scrolled through some of the tweets. i was cutting and pasting to translate the arabic, but couldn't tell what the context was. then i saw a picture, it was pretty graphic and showed 3 images of a beheading. that's when i took a screenshot, and copied the link to the list and sent it to a friend of mine who is in the military and asked him to show it to someone to have it analyzed to see if it may be a threat.

i am a big proponent of free speech and hate unauthorized searches or someone being harassed for just voicing an opinion. i am starting to wonder if i did the right thing. i could have just turned loose the dogs onto some innocent people, but on the other hand, i could have prevented innocent loss of life. the thing that makes me think it's real is the picture, i'll let you decide. it could be a result of anonymous declaring war on isis. anyway, i can sleep a little better at night knowing that i may have helped prevent something sinister. thoughts?

I support your decision as I believe it was the right thing to do. Anytime we become aware of something that could have a negative or harmful consequence for society at large we should report it. Think of how you would feel if it was/is a real threat and you did nothing.

The sick tragedy is that the beheading itself is secondary to privacy infringement. Judgement is coming to the world.

OK, I'll admit I won't look at the picture, because it wouldn't change my opinion, based on what I've seen in the past from you.

And what I've seen makes me think that you use your honest best judgment, and consider the consequences before you do something. The fact that you might be wrong sometimes makes you human, not evil. I have no experience whatsoever that would let me judge a picture better than you. But I'm not a bad judge of character.

I'd say you did what seemed right at the time, worst you could be accused of would be being cautious.

I'm not 100% convinced the shots are real though. Why is one man swinging the blade in the second shot then a different man is holding it and the head in the third shot? This wouldn't be the most difficult 'shop job in the world, though the shadows look pretty good. Too hard to tell with something this low-res. Were the originals you saw clearer and obviously real? Not doubting your instincts, just wondering if you'd seen something that ruled out the likelihood of editing.

honestly, when i saw that, i had been trying to get a sense of the twitter feed from google translate, and when i saw the picture i got nervous. based on some of the other things i read, i took it as real immediately, took a screenshot, and copied the link to the pastebin dump. in retrospect, i should have copied the twitter handles to a notepad doc, because when i went back to them after posting this, it had been removed. also, it is all over cnn about that us twitter account getting hacked by isis, and my buddy told me that his boss said to leave it alone that homeland security was aware of it. sounds like i may have stumbled onto something that was real, no way of telling. i know they can track you 9 ways from sunday and i wasn't on a vpn or proxy or hiding in any way. i just hope that it is the homeland security that did the tracking, not the terrorists. i am not afraid of them, but would rather not get involved in any violence. i have been a little more cautious, however.

, and Youtube.

When I heard that I thought who fucking cares, its not like were hiding secret nuclear launch codes on the US twitter or Youtube account, its just silly hacking.

Without doubt you did the right thing, I also didn't look at the picture you attached, I don't need any more grizzly images in my head. However don't be surprised if lots of people are now reading your inbox ;)

I saw a picture of a kid on reddit that was eaten by piranhas the other day. Im pretty sure I can handle any picture the internet has to offer for the rest of the year after that....../eye bleach

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3340857that should take you to a truly gruesome one. i think it's fake, but can't look at it after the first time.

edit to add: having recently taken up the sideline of security researcher, i am under no false illusions that i am being watched specifically. having said that, i can become invisible if i choose, but it takes a lot of effort, and right now i am too busy. it does beg the question: is it unethical to join an anonymous battle that punishes isis? that's a tough call for me, and i am staying out because of the effort i need to put in not to get caught. but still...one has to wonder...
