kallend 2,175 #1 November 18, 2014 If you think the Republicans are behind the curve when it comes to using social media, think again. According to a new report published by CNN, it looks like the GOP was using Twitter to share polling numbers and other election information with outside groups, a practice that is technically illegal under current Federal Election Commission guidelines. What's stranger is that it appears the GOP crafted these tweets in a sort of code to avoid detection from anyone other than their intended audience. inthecapital.streetwise.co/2014/11/17/the-gop-used-coded-tweets-to-share-information-on-the-2014-election/ And even Newsmax covers the story, Marc!... Boomerdog 0 #2 November 18, 2014 So if Fox accused the Democrats of the very same thing, you'd be here itching, moaning, bleeting and making every coarse sound you could that, "Fox News is at it again!" First, gather the hard evidence, AKA the hard data. If the hard data is there, I'll stand with you. Quote"...it appears the GOP crafted these tweets in a sort of code to avoid detection..." Do you have the code book to "crack the code" to verify those evil rascal Republicans have conjured up a new tradecraft? Illegal? You might be right but please cite chapter and verse of the US Code of Federal Regulations. Until then...fertilizer...just fertilizer.
BIGUN 1,503 #3 November 18, 2014 I highlighted the article as I was reading... This tactic just might violate campaign finance laws, which are murky at best. But these Twitter accounts seem to suggest that coordination happens, However, if this information was meant to be only shared between specific parties for the purpose of coordinately campaign messaging, "If it truly requires some sort of Ovaltine decoder ring You have to further meet the requirement of no pre-arrangement or coordination. But it is the burden of the government to demonstrate that." This also isn't the first time political campaigns have posted information online to help out their supporting super PACs. Many campaigns [meaning every party?] have published detailed messaging and strategy memos on their websites, which are then picked up by outside groups to turn into targeted television and online ads. ...there is little chance of the FEC filing a complaint against the GOP for this practice. How this even made it to print made it questionable. Some homework on the "staffwriter"with one year of experience - is actually a Blogger whose motivation is to, "Brings in 150K+ unique page views to the site quarterly." http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tess-vandendolder/47/b71/16 In short, if this had been a Democrat smear; I'd have called bullshit on it also.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. kallend 2,175 #5 November 18, 2014 I see: Suspicion of fraud is sufficient to change voter laws in ways that disenfranchise large numbers of voters and strongly supported by many posts by the righties on SC, but the possibility that federal election laws have been violated by the GOP is not even worthy of a post in SC. Got it - double standard at work.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
BIGUN 1,503 #6 November 18, 2014 There's no double standard here. Don't accuse me of that when you've seen how many times I've stood for your side of the aisle. Did you read the last line of what I wrote? I'd call bullshit if it were the same article about Democrats. You know that. Horrible journalism for any side.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
