lawrocket 3 #1 November 12, 2014 Some things just leave me in awe of the ay politics works. The elections are over, so President going to be the lamest duck possible. In anticipation, and without advice and consent of the Senate, announced an agreement with China to reduce US carbon emissions by 26% of 2005 levels by 2025. China has agreed to do nothing until 2030 except to let carbon emissions peak that year. The environmentalists/left are orgasmic over this. The righties are furious. Both are dunces. US emissions have already been falling (natural gas and shale oil). This so-called agreement just tries to accelerate what has already been accelerating. China's emissions were projected to peak, anyway, in 2030. So china is status quo. US is status quo. Here are the problems: (1) It's not an agreement without an enforcement mechanism. No penalty for breaking it. (2) It won't drop global warming a tenth of a degree. It'll do nothing except be symbolic (3) It's not approved by the Senate (4) It's all an image game for Paris next year (after Copenhagen became a total farce a few years back). The only thing more ridiculous than the GOP blasting this so called agreement is the other side lauding it. It's a do nothing, cost nothing, zero effect bit of PR. My wife is hotter than your wife. Andy9o8 3 #3 November 12, 2014 For a West Wing staff that never really rose to a particularly high level of competence, this is actually a neat little score of political gamesmanship. Of course the Repubs have to object to it (reflexively, and predictably, they already have), and they'll look like dicks for doing so.
