WMD found in Iraq 2003

Recommended Posts

And the Pentagon just didn't tell us. So it was not a lie after all. How many posters here will just say, "I'm sorry"?

You realize that those were old munitions that everyone knew he had, not from any (then) current chemical weapon program, right?

There were chemical weapons found in Iraq, yes, but they were not part of any active weapons of mass destruction program, according to this article.

"After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, [President George W.] Bush insisted that [Iraqi leader Saddam] Hussein was hiding an active weapons of mass destruction program, in defiance of international will and at the world’s risk. United Nations inspectors said they could not find evidence for these claims." The discovery of pre-Gulf War chemical weapons — most of them "filthy, rusty or corroded" — did not fit the narrative."

So while there were indeed such weapons in Iraq, the Bush regime hid this information because these rusted, abandoned weapons didn't fit the narrative of an active WMD program threatening the United States. Not exactly a victory for the Iraq war cheerleaders. No need for anyone to apologize.

Those were indeed the chemical weapons you already knew he had. Not the ones used for justification of the invasion.

Interestingly, now these will probably be used to justify invading.....again.

Um . . . rather than read the tripe on the web site you just linked to, it might be better to go to the actual source being used to substantiate its claims.

How the fuck anyone could be so stupid as to misread that is beyond me. Oh wait, the writer of the article you linked to intentionally is misleading people about it and you're reposting it like some faithful lapdog of the right-wing wacko media.

Carry on.

What was it, just last month the right tried this tactic with the 'chemical weapons plant' that ISIS took over. They said "Hey look, Saddam was making WMD after all!" Except it was a plant that was abandoned and sealed after Gulf 1 and the leaking, decaying munitions still within would only be good for poisoning anyone who tried to uncover them.

Now they're trying the exact same distortion again and hoping for some reason people will fall for it this time.

The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West.

So (1) why did the Bush administration keep it quiet if it confirmed the WMD claim? and (2) why did Bush and Powell eventually admit that there was no WMD program?

Answers: (1) it showed that they had put American troops in harm's way with inadequate protection, and (2) because these weren't WMDs, they were old, obsolete, decayed and unusable lefovers.

You need to stop believing the right wing lie machine.

Gonna pull up a chair and microwave some popcorn brb.;)

From the ORIGINAL article (not the right-wing selectively edited version):

The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West.

And...

In case after case, participants said, analysis of these warheads and shells reaffirmed intelligence failures. First, the American government did not find what it had been looking for at the war’s outset, then it failed to prepare its troops and medical corps for the aged weapons it did find.

And...

Participants in the chemical weapons discoveries said the United States suppressed knowledge of finds for multiple reasons, including that the government bristled at further acknowledgment it had been wrong. “They needed something to say that after Sept. 11 Saddam used chemical rounds,” Mr. Lampier said. “And all of this was from the pre-1991 era.”

And...

The discoveries of these chemical weapons did not support the government’s invasion rationale.

I expect you are choking on that popcorn now, Anvil.

Ok so show us your itinerary where you went to Iraq and inspected these wmd's yourself. You spouting off like you have firsthand knowledge indicating that these weapons are from the same cache should insult ever one with a moderate IQ. The fact is until you pull documents out your speculations are just as unqualified as these reports.

And here, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the ramblings of a true believer, a true patriot. Why would we want facts to stand in the way of a good war.

Keep digging buddy, keep digging that hole.
