jcd11235 0 #3 October 15, 2014 You realize that those were old munitions that everyone knew he had, not from any (then) current chemical weapon program, right? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/15/bush-iraq-wmds_n_5990624.html "[T]Here's a whole article in the IJReview that gamely manages to omit the most relevant information from Chivers' piece, while billing it as the Golden Ticket that proves President George W. AndyBoyd 0 #4 October 15, 2014 There were chemical weapons found in Iraq, yes, but they were not part of any active weapons of mass destruction program, according to this article. "After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, [President George W.] Bush insisted that [Iraqi leader Saddam] Hussein was hiding an active weapons of mass destruction program, in defiance of international will and at the world’s risk. United Nations inspectors said they could not find evidence for these claims." The discovery of pre-Gulf War chemical weapons — most of them "filthy, rusty or corroded" — did not fit the narrative." So while there were indeed such weapons in Iraq, the Bush regime hid this information because these rusted, abandoned weapons didn't fit the narrative of an active WMD program threatening the United States. Not exactly a victory for the Iraq war cheerleaders. No need for anyone to apologize. jakee 1,596 #13 October 15, 2014 What was it, just last month the right tried this tactic with the 'chemical weapons plant' that ISIS took over. They said "Hey look, Saddam was making WMD after all!" Except it was a plant that was abandoned and sealed after Gulf 1 and the leaking, decaying munitions still within would only be good for poisoning anyone who tried to uncover them. Now they're trying the exact same distortion again and hoping for some reason people will fall for it this time. The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West.Do you want to have an ideagasm? Answers: (1) it showed that they had put American troops in harm's way with inadequate protection, and (2) because these weren't WMDs, they were old, obsolete, decayed and unusable lefovers. kallend 2,150 #16 October 15, 2014 cvfd1399 Gonna pull up a chair and microwave some popcorn brb. From the ORIGINAL article (not the right-wing selectively edited version): The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs, built in close collaboration with the West. And... In case after case, participants said, analysis of these warheads and shells reaffirmed intelligence failures. First, the American government did not find what it had been looking for at the war’s outset, then it failed to prepare its troops and medical corps for the aged weapons it did find. And... Participants in the chemical weapons discoveries said the United States suppressed knowledge of finds for multiple reasons, including that the government bristled at further acknowledgment it had been wrong. “They needed something to say that after Sept. 11 Saddam used chemical rounds,” Mr. Lampier said. “And all of this was from the pre-1991 era.” And... The discoveries of these chemical weapons did not support the government’s invasion rationale. I expect you are choking on that popcorn now, Anvil....
