Historical analysis since WWII shows no correlation of deficits with Congress, and a fairly strong correlation with the party of the President.... BIGUN 1,494 #6 October 13, 2014 Sorry, but both sides are playing a shell game and posturing for the elections. The fact of the matter is; when you kick over billions of dollars of new debt to the next fiscal year (Oct 1); the deficit will decline sharply in the previous month. In reality, the US borrowed 121% more to cover the fiscal deficit. WE still borrowed 52% more than CBO’s deficit projection and the Fed has been the enabler. Since 2002, OUR government borrowed $12 trillion of the now 17 trillion dollar debt. Two-thirds of the total debt outstanding. Since 2008, the government borrowed $8.8 trillion - about half of the total debt outstanding. All hail the deficit; but the debt is the real demon. During the upcoming elections one side will posture over the shrinking deficit; the other - the growing debt. And, those who vote will vote against what they "believe" is the greater demon. WE better get our shit together and work together on both ends of the debt and deficit. Oops, I made an oxymoron - "work together." Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
kallend 2,159 #7 October 13, 2014 BIGUN Sorry, but both sides are playing a shell game and posturing for the elections. ..... Of course, that's what politicians do. It does not, however, negate the FACT that historical analysis since WWII shows no correlation of deficits with Congress, and a fairly strong correlation with the party of the President. No Republican president since Nixon has reduced the deficit as a % of GDP. No Dem president since LBJ has increased the deficit as a % of GDP. And on a % increase in debt basis the biggest offender of all was St. Ronald Reagan. who tripled it.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. Now, we can take sides and reflect on the past -OR- we can work together to fix the future.
