What Barry Says vs. What Barry Means

Recommended Posts

From CBS News

What Barry Says:

"Citizens rightly demand more responsiveness, more openness, more transparency, more accountability from their governments," lectured Mr. Obama last month to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.

"We pledge to be more transparent at every level -- because more information on government activity should be open, timely, and freely available to the people," the president said three years earlier in remarks at the Open Government Partnership.

"Strong civil societies that hold governments accountable; and governments that are transparent and responsive to their citizens. This is what makes a democracy," he said in 2011 in a speech in Santiago, Chile.

"One of the most fundamental values we hold as Americans is that our government ought to be open and transparent; that it ought to be of the people, by the people, and for the people," asserted presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008.

"I'll make our government open and transparent so that anyone can ensure that our business is the people's business," he vowed in that campaign speech in Billings, Montana.

What Barry Means:

"Citizens rightly demand more responsiveness, more openness, more transparency, more accountability from their governments, well, except for ours, and especially not while I am in the Whitehouse"

"We pledge to be more transparent at every level -- because more information on government activity should be open, timely, and freely available to the people, well except for anything to do with this administration, all my promises are only good for people that will actually believe the bullshit I say."

""Strong civil societies that hold governments accountable; and governments that are transparent and responsive to their citizens. This is what makes a democracy, but I don't actually intend on following what I say, but it sure did sound good, didn't it? "

"One of the most fundamental values we hold as Americans is that our government ought to be open and transparent; that it ought to be of the people, by the people, and for the people, unless it may cause me to have to explain myself, no matter what I say, it is much more important to me that I don't look worse in the eyes of my supporters."

"I'll make our government open and transparent so that anyone can ensure that our business is the people's business, but I won't let that happen until I'm gone, if it ever does . . . See, I knew I could show you that I'm no better than GW Bush!"

Wow, that reads like a 10 old year wrote it for school project to impress his right wing teacher.

At least post some funny or intelligent satire.

Oh, well, we both know it is your bias that makes it unfunny to you.[:/]
Open your mind a bit.

Or try to address the facts vs. the realities, if you can.

It seems to me that you didn't even read the article before you knee jerk responded.

Be honest, you didn't, did you?:)

Actually I did, but a politician that says something other than what really happens is not really news worthy.

It's like a headline: Thief steals, or Killer murders.

I think the article has some merit, the changed quotes are dilettante and unfunny though.

Conservative Americans need to constantly remind the low information and liberal voter that they made a really stupid mistake. It is an American thing, nothing for you to see here, just move along.

It was not a mistake to choose the lesser of two evils. Even knowing now what I didn't know then, I'd take Obama over McCain or Romney.

Of course, I stay pretty well informed.

McCain had a lot more appeal to the common folk in the swing voting moderate middle than Romney did. Mighta grabbed the brass ring, too, had he not screwed the pooch by picking a scary train wreck in Palin to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Hi Andy,

I can recommend this:

Scary.

PS) IMO John McCain gave the best concession speech that I have ever heard. Ms. Palin wanted to get her two cents in but he would not allow her to speak.

Or taken a sharp right turn in his positions early in his campaign.

BHO over McCain makes some sense but, BHO over Romney makes no sense to me at all. IMO of course.

It made perfect sense - The Romney presented to us in 2012 was so radically (or more precisely conservatively) different from the Romney of 2008 that it was an obvious lie.

Precisely my confusion. I am not that concerned with what the media is presenting about the candidate. I am interested in the candidate's resume'. In 2012 our economy needed expert financial management. BHO had proven he did not have the expertise. Romney had proven that he did.

Oh well, it is what it is.

January 2009 after 8 years of GWB: economy in the dumpster, unemployment rising fast, stock market below its Clinton era levels.

October 2014, economy in healthy recovery, unemployment falling, stock market near record highs.

It is indeed what it is and you are incapable of seeing it.

2012 not 2014, conservatism vs. liberalism.

By any measure the economy was better in Nov. 2012 than it was after 8 years of GWB's "compassionate conservatism" had trashed it. It's even better now.

Our nation is undeniably in a combined death spiral of debt, dependency, and immorality.

In the final analysis, it all comes down to this one statement:

The right to own private property that cannot be arbitrarily regulated or confiscated by the government is the moral and constitutional basis for individual freedom.

Without private property and the liberty it provides, all we have is The Illusion of Freedom.
